Kenny Morris, a legendary drummer and musician from the United Kingdom, passed away at the age of 68.

Siouxsie and the Banshees was a band that was well-known for its gothic post-punk songs throughout the 1970s. Morris was a founding member of the band and served as the band’s drummer.

Before quitting the band, the musician was a part of the band’s first two albums, which were produced in 1978 and 1979 respectively and were titled The Scream and Join Hands.

Both of these albums, which are considered to be fundamental inspirations for post-punk music, made it into the top 20 of the charts.

It was his lifelong friend John Robb who confirmed his passing. He added, “He was sweet, articulate, artistic, and fascinating company, and his beautiful eccentricity was adorable.”

“Kenny, it was a pleasure to get to know you, and we will miss your sweet eccentricity, your lengthy WhatsApp messages, your artwork, and your gentle presence in this cruel world,”In addition, the music writer paid respect to him by saying, “He would show up in a suit and a dress with open handcuffs on one hand, and the next time in a completely different yet perfectly created bricolage of style, while still dressing in the artful confrontation of the 1976 punk era that he was such an important part of.”

Sid Vicious, who had only performed one gig with Siouxsie and the Banshees before to joining the Sex Pistols, was replaced by the drummer.

The band’s first song, titled Hong Kong Garden, included Morris on the drums, which helped them establish themselves as a prominent figure in the underground scene in London.

Additionally, he started the recording of the cymbals track before moving on to the tom-toms, which ultimately became influential to post-punk bands.Following a disagreement that took place during an in-store record signing in 1979, both Morris and guitarist John McKay terminated their membership in the band.

During the time when the band was transitioning into the new wave genre, Morris attended film school and explored live drumming projects. After that, he moved back to Cork, and then eventually to Dublin.

His paintings are not only well-known in the art world, but they have also been shown at important art events in the capital of Ireland of Ireland. After hearing the news of Morris’s passing, a number of people expressed their condolences by writing on X, “RIP Kenny Morris: original punk, Banshee drummer extraordinaire.” In the Banshees, I had a close relationship with him, and I just had a conversation with him about his book. I have high hopes that it will be published. Dear Kenny, may God bless you.

“The sad news is… “Another significant portion of my youth has passed away,” tweeted @devo14uk.

That has taken me by surprise. I have been a fan of the original Banshees lineup for a very long time. In the past, Kenny and John were known as the Banshees. On Twitter, @StopTheWorld9 commented, “May Kenny rest in peace.”

Others referred to him as a “brilliant drummer,” and those who had the opportunity to interact with him recalled him as being “lovely.”
