Jimmie Herrod, a contestant on America’s Got Talent, took a daring risk by performing the 1977 hit “Tomorrow” from the musical Annie—a song Simon Cowell has openly called his least favorite. The gamble paid off, as Jimmie walked away with the coveted Golden Buzzer.

While many consider “Tomorrow” one of the most uplifting songs in musical theater, Simon immediately revealed his dislike for it. Before the performance, he asked Jimmie about his age, background, and work. When Jimmie confirmed he was a singer, he humbly added with a smile, “I hope so.”

Despite Simon suggesting he choose another piece, Jimmie stood his ground, admitting he had no backup song. With a hesitant “good luck” from Simon, he began his performance. Within moments, the judges realized this wasn’t going to be an ordinary rendition. Jimmie’s powerful tenor voice quickly filled the stage, delivering soaring, emotion-packed notes that left the audience with goosebumps.

As he finished with a breathtaking final note, three judges and host Terry Crews jumped to their feet in applause. Even Simon—after repeating “Wow” several times—conceded that “Tomorrow” was no longer his least favorite song. But the real twist came when Sofia Vergara seemed unimpressed, claiming she didn’t enjoy it. Seconds later, she revealed it was just a playful trick and slammed the Golden Buzzer, showering Jimmie in golden confetti that perfectly matched his shirt.

Overjoyed, Sofia joined him on stage to celebrate. The moment closed with Jimmie calling his father to share the life-changing news: he was headed straight to the quarterfinals. His smile radiated as brightly as his future, and his voice proved to be just as powerful.
