“Live!” has reclaimed Jimmy Kimmel as its host. ABC put the program on an extended hold six days before due to his remarks on the murder of Charlie Kirk. At that time, he made a halfhearted apology without really expressing the word “sorry.”
While emphasizing that he had never intended to downplay the death of Charlie Kirk, supported free expression, and denounced the FCC and President Donald Trump for forcing him to be taken off the air, Jimmy became upset.
After joking about preempting “Celebrity Family Feud,” he said that the previous forty-eight hours had seemed like a dream. He drew a parallel between it and the week of the CEO of Tylenol. He said that all of the people he has ever met have reached out to him. This includes Larry, the CEO of a Seattle radio station who fired him years ago for refusing to perform a donut bit.
Kimmel expressed his gratitude for the support that he received from ABC over the course of 23 years, drew attention to the efforts that Trump made to have late night shows fired, and acknowledged the unity that was seen across the political spectrum. He then switched to humor, joking with Robert De Niro, who was the chairman of the FCC, and making fun of Trump’s address at the United Nations, his escalator accident, and his difficulties with the teleprompter.
He expressed his gratitude to the audience members who spoke up in support of him, so allowing his voice to be heard, and he emphasized that this included even those with whom he disagrees, but who protected his right to be on the air.
Kimmel expressed gratitude to the late-night hosts, including Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, John Stewart, and Jay Leno. He said that even people from other countries expressed their support.
As we already informed you, Jimmy returned to Instagram earlier on Tuesday in order to post a picture of himself with Norman Lear, who was a supporter of the First Amendment.
Before the performance began, we also saw him making his way toward his Hollywood studio, seeming somber and determined to go inside.
As we reported on Monday, ABC stated that Jimmy will be returning to the airwaves after “thoughtful conversations” with him over the course of the last several days.
Even however, his show will not be aired to all of the network’s affiliates since Media Group and Sinclair, the owners of a large number of affiliate stations, have both announced that they would continue to preempt “Live!” for the time being.
