Music has an amazing way of healing and discovering hidden skills. For 74-year-old Frank Dimitri, it became the key to unlocking a lifetime ambition.

Born in Niagara Falls, New York, Frank spent decades working as a bartender, all while fostering a love for singing. However, a stammer that developed in infancy held him back from following his musical dreams. He frequently felt alienated and difficult to establish friends owing to his speech handicap. Despite these limitations, Frank learned that singing enabled him to express himself without inhibition. “Singing is the only time I could express my feelings and how I felt in words,” he added.

After retiring, Frank decided to take a risk and apply for America’s Got Talent. He selected to play Frank Sinatra’s “I’ve Got the World on a String,” a song that struck strongly with him. As he started to sing, the crowd was fascinated by his silky voice and assured delivery. The judges were similarly delighted, with Howie Mandel applauding Frank for his performance and wondering why he hadn’t been spotted sooner. All four judges unanimously voted “yes,” moving Frank to the next round.

Frank’s tale is a monument to the power of endurance and the transformational influence of music. His path inspires people to follow their goals, despite of the hurdles they may encounter.
