Florida State freshman linebacker Ethan Pritchard remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition after being shot Sunday night, just hours after his team’s upset victory over Alabama.

The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident occurred in Havana, Florida — about 16 miles outside Tallahassee.

According to an FSU statement, Pritchard had been visiting family and was sitting in a vehicle outside an apartment complex when the shooting happened. He was found injured inside the vehicle and transported to a nearby hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

“The Pritchard family is grateful for the support they’ve received from so many people, as well as the care provided by first responders and medical staff, and they ask for privacy at this time,” the university said. “Further updates will be shared when available.”

Head coach Mike Norvell addressed reporters on Monday, September 1, calling the incident “tragic.”

“I was at the hospital into the early hours this morning,” Norvell said. “Through Ethan’s father, I was able to share some updates with the team, giving them perspective on where things stand.”

Florida State football also issued a statement on its official X account:
“Ethan Pritchard is in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit at a local hospital after suffering a gunshot wound last night while visiting family in Havana, Florida.”

Pritchard, a Sanford, Florida native, joined the Seminoles in January. He did not appear in the team’s season-opening win over Alabama on Saturday, August 30.
