Just yet, Jamie Lee Curtis is not prepared to say goodbye to the phenomenon of becoming viral.
The actress made news not so long ago for her explicit (but fun) response to Allison Janney’s pantless look at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards in July. The event included the actress’s appearance at the event. However, this time, the Oscar winner, who is 66 years old, is reacting to the funny internet buzz that she caused with an attire that she wore to a Freakier Friday showing at the El Capitan theater in Los Angeles.
In the week that has passed since the event that took place on August 15, at which Curtis made an unexpected appearance, there has been a plethora of naughty and inappropriate memes and comments that react to the star’s outfit. The star’s outfit was so attention-grabbing with its cleavage-baring blazer that one fan even apologized for being so “distracted” (in the comments section of Disney Studios’ Instagram post, no less).
It was on August 20 that Curtis decided to take it upon herself to reply directly to the jokes. Alongside a photo of herself in the outfit, inspired by her character Tess Coleman (as her fashionable soon-to-be step-granddaughter Lily), she wrote on Instagram: “I LOVE the fact that the LAST photograph of me as TESS taken backstage in costume from my surprise appearance at @elcapitanthtre to support #freakierfriday has gotten more attention than any other since the announcement post with @lindsaylohan that sparked the movie getting made!”
She continued by saying, “I am delighted to be able to contribute to the dissemination of the happiness that our film brings!”
To compliment the eye-catching outfit, Curtis fell even deeper into her part by wearing a banging gray bob wig that is identical to the one she wears in the movie, which follows a body-swapping premise that is similar to the one in the original. Despite this, she did not utilize the prosthetic lips (for those who have seen the sequel, Tess uses a product called “rip rumper,” which is also known as a lip plumper, which causes her lips to double in size).
On August 8, Freakier Friday was released, which is more than twenty years after the first film Freaky Friday was first shown in theaters in October of 2003. In addition to Curtis, Lindsay Lohan reprised her role as Anna, while newcomers Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons as Harper and Lily, who were adversaries and would eventually become stepsisters.
Curtis recently gave an interview to PEOPLE in which she discussed the 22-year bond she has maintained with Lindsay Lohan throughout the years. She said that her longtime costar has been someone she can really “trust.” As the actor from Knives Out noted, “If I tell her something, it’s going to stay with her the whole time.” Because we are both still alive and life is challenging, we have both gone through challenging experiences. And we have not yet passed away. Therefore, the reality of our time spent together is that it contradicts all of the Hollywood nonsense that has been going on. She went on to say, “We not only connected, but we really stayed connected.” And it is something that I find unusual and remarkable.
