The world watched closely yesterday as Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy returned to the White House for the second time this year to meet with US president Donald Trump.
His first visit had been nothing short of disastrous. In a tense exchange fueled in part by JD Vance, both Zelenskyy and Trump hurled insults at one another in front of the press—a display that served no one except Vladimir Putin.
Zelenskyy’s February trip had been intended to rally international support to help Ukraine end the war launched by Russia’s 2022 invasion. He arrived dressed in his usual military fatigues, embodying the role of a wartime leader forced to beg for aid. Instead, he found himself publicly belittled. Trump accused him of “gambling with World War 3,” while Vance chastised him for supposedly lacking gratitude toward the US.
To make matters worse, Real America’s Voice reporter Brian Glenn criticized Zelenskyy for not wearing a suit. “Why don’t you wear a suit?” he asked. “You’re in the highest office in this country and you refuse to wear one. Do you even own a suit?”
That meeting quickly became infamous for all the wrong reasons, straining ties with one of Ukraine’s most vital allies at a critical moment.
Which is why yesterday’s White House encounter carried such weight. Just days after Trump’s summit with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, Zelenskyy returned to Washington—this time without the chaos that marked his first trip.
Most notably, Zelenskyy opted for formal wear rather than his trademark fatigues. Reporter Brian Glenn, present once again, complimented his appearance and even apologized for his previous remarks. That’s when Zelenskyy delivered a sharp but playful retort that has since gone viral.
“You’re wearing the same suit,” he told Glenn. “I’ve changed, you have not.”
The remark drew laughter throughout the room—even Trump cracked a smile.
“What a perfect way to shut down a reporter while keeping it light,” one user wrote on X.
“OMG, how can I love him more?!” another gushed.
“Zelenskyy’s a comedian—he knows how to handle hecklers,” added a third.
REPORTER: "You look fabulous in that suit."
POTUS: "That's the reporter that attacked you last time."
ZELENSKYY: "I remember…He's in the same suit. I changed. You are not." 😂 pic.twitter.com/VFrSD7wdlH
