Melania and Donald Trump have been married for two decades and share one son, Barron, born in 2006. While Donald focused on his business ventures, Melania dedicated herself to raising their son, who grew up in luxury at Trump Tower. Even now, with Barron at 19, she remains closely involved in his life.

Although Donald has five children from three marriages, Melania recently revealed he wanted to expand their family further. However, she felt content with having one child, citing their busy lives. Speaking on Fox & Friends, she said, “Donald wanted more, but I was perfectly fine with one.”

From the start, Melania took a hands-on approach to parenting. She chose not to hire a nanny and ensured she was always there for Barron, especially during Donald’s frequent travels. “If you have too much help, you don’t get to know your child,” she told People in 2015.

Melania nurtured Barron’s creativity, even letting him draw on the walls of his playroom. She encouraged his interests—whether it was building things, flying toys, or playing pretend. She believed saying “no” too often stifled imagination.

Though Donald admitted in interviews that he wasn’t the most involved parent during Barron’s early years, Melania made sure father and son still had quality time—often dining out together or bonding over golf. Donald once said he wouldn’t be “changing diapers,” and might not “even see the kids.”

Melania was deeply involved in Barron’s education too—helping with homework, arranging after-school activities, and encouraging his dreams, which ranged from becoming a pilot to a businessman or golfer.

After finishing high school at Oxbridge Academy in Florida, Barron enrolled in NYU’s Stern School of Business in fall 2024. Despite his independence, Melania remains protective. According to People magazine, Barron won’t be living in a dorm, with sources saying she believes being near him is best for now. “Whether or not others think he’s ready to be on his own, Melania wants to be close by,” a source explained.

Raised in a bilingual household, Barron speaks Slovenian when talking to his maternal grandparents. Melania once said he spoke three languages as a child, and videos of him speaking with a Slovenian accent surfaced following Donald’s 2024 presidential election win.

Reflecting on her own journey, Melania, a successful former model from Slovenia, said she made sure to set an example for Barron about work ethic and creativity. “I think it’s important for children to see their parents working, creating, being productive,” she said.

In navigating life in a blended family, Melania emphasized the value of respect and individuality. She noted that every person is their own individual—even within a family. “I can’t control my husband, his children, or even my own son,” she shared. “We’re all individuals with our own choices.”

Now that Barron is beginning his adult life, Melania couldn’t be prouder. She describes him as kind, intelligent, and strong. “He’s an incredible young man,” she said, adding that he’s enjoying his college experience—even though his life is very different from other young people his age.
