Flash flooding in central Texas has severely impacted many camps in the state, including Camp Mystic, an all-girls retreat where several participants are unaccounted for. Recent photographs reveal the camp’s shattered condition.
Observe the remarkable images—structures in the camp in Hunt, TX have had their walls dismantled, while abandoned belongings have been scattered. Several mattresses inside the cabins are disarrayed, positioned on their sides and completely flipped, while sandy water inundates the floor.
Multiple cars were toppled, including this truck, which is positioned on its side against a tree. It is uncertain if the elements directly caused the car’s damage or whether it was impaired when some person attempted to use it during the storm.
The floods necessitated rapid evacuations, and it is evident that many lacked the time to collect their belongings in this image, where garments, bed linens, and other items have been abandoned.
At least 32 individuals have perished in the floodwaters, while over 20 girls from Camp Mystic are unaccounted for as of the time of publication. At least one child, an eight-year-old named Renee Smajstrla, has been confirmed deceased.
