An incident that occurred in a public park in Minneapolis, Minnesota, that resulted in the death of a little kid brought the summer season to a gloomy start.
According to Chief Brian O’Hara of the Minneapolis Police Department, the event took place on June 23. He made the announcement that the victim was a child who was 11 years old at a press conference and in a news release that they issued on the same day.
Amir Atkins, who was 11 years old at the time of the incident, has been identified as the victim provisionally by the county medical examiner. The funeral costs of his mother are being covered by a GoFundMe campaign that was started by him.
O’Hara said that shooting could be heard in the park just after two o’clock in the afternoon, and a short while after, a guy who was sitting on his porch “heard cries from help.”
After that, the guy observed that Amir had sustained injuries that were potentially fatal, and he “placed the child and one of the males into his vehicle and began driving toward the hospital,” according to O’Hara.
Following the sighting of a law enforcement officer along the path, the individual came to a halt, and attempts were made to save his life; nevertheless, it was already too late.
O’Hara said, “I cannot emphasize enough how terrible it is to have an 11-year-old boy shot and killed in the middle of the day.” the tragedy occurred in the middle of the day. “We need anyone who has information to come forward so that we can bring some sense of justice to the family of this child,” the statement said. “We are following every lead, but in order to solve this, we need the assistance of the general public.”
The family said in their post that Amir’s brother carried him while they were searching for assistance after the shooting, and that he subsequently kept him in the vehicle while they went to the hospital during the emergency situation.
“Amir was a beacon of light in our lives – a joyful, loving child whose laughter filled our hearts,” the boy’s uncle said in his tribute. “He had a unique spark that touched everyone he met, and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled.”
The circumstances are now being investigated by the Minneapolis Police Department, and they are requesting that anybody who may have information get in touch with them.
