The bond that Margaret Cho has with Ellen DeGeneres is the subject of her reflections.

During her interview on The Kelly Mantle Show podcast, the stand-up comedian, who is 56 years old, discussed Ellen DeGeneres, who is 67 years old. She began by providing a description of the former television presenter as “somebody that I’d known for such a long time.”

“It’s so weird now, [the] public perception of her is more true to… she’s mean,” Cho then said to anchor Kelly Mantle after the aforementioned statement. “She was like a mean girl, kind of, but also she would be real nice.”

As a result of the fact that her girlfriends and husbands have always loved me, I believe that she has always had unfavorable thoughts against me. Cho went on to say that there is a certain kind of lady who is a fan of female comics. “… But yeah, Ellen was really weird, and not nice to me for most of my career.”

In response to a request for comment made by PEOPLE on Sunday, June 22, representatives for Ellen DeGeneres did not immediately reply for comment.

Cho said that she was the opening act for Ellen DeGeneres “way before her big fame,” which dates back to the 1980s, when the Finding Nemo actress was performing at comedy clubs. During her appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in the 2000s, she revealed that some aspects of their relationship seemed different than they had in the past.

According to Cho, “She behaved as if we had just met.” When I hear it, I think to myself, ‘B—-, what?’ That’s a mystery. We have a long history together.”

Cho also said that Ellen DeGeneres had David Bowie as a guest on her talk show at one point, and she claimed that the comedian “cut” a segment of their conversation in which the late singer gushed over her. (Bowie made an appearance on Ellen in April of 2004, which was at the same time that he was performing at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.)

“It’s so creepy and weird, but also, the other thing was, David Bowie had been on the show, and he was so excited that the night before that, I had come to his show wearing this giant Chinese emperor outfit,” Cho said to reporters. It was something that he was quite enthusiastic about, and he went into great detail about it. On top of that, she removed it from the presentation, which made me quite angry.

“The producer, who is a really good friend of mine, had to call me and tell me, ‘I can’t believe she did this, but she was able to cut it out of the show.'” You must be aware that he was raving over your attire for a considerable amount of time. “He loves you,” she proceeded to assert, remembering other details about the purported chat she had with the individuals working behind the scenes.

In addition, Cho said, “I am not sure if it was a personal matter or if it was for time.” Nevertheless, I am going to take it personally because I have made the decision to do so.

Ellen DeGeneres made her last appearance in its Netflix comedy special, titled Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval, in September 2024. She had already concluded her talk show of the same name in May 2022.

Throughout the course of the show, she detailed the ways in which the claims made against her in the workplace had an impact on her mental health.

After settling down in the English countryside, Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, eventually left the United States of America and moved to England.
