Can you guess which iconic actor once lived in a rundown New York City “flophouse” for just \$150 a month — and now enjoys a peaceful life on a farm with his family?

This Hollywood star came from humble beginnings. Long before the fame, his life revolved around farm animals, fresh veggies, and simple joys. From a young age, he dreamed of becoming an actor. After movie nights, he’d dress up as the characters he’d just seen, using a box of old clothes his mom saved to fuel his vivid imagination.

In 1976, fresh out of Philadelphia, he moved to NYC to pursue acting. At first, he crashed on his sister’s couch, then found a cheap place listed in the *Village Voice*. The space wasn’t much — he even had to share it with a roommate, a classical pianist whose late-night playing left a lasting impression. They lived together for four years in what was known as an “artist’s residence.”

While studying at Circle in the Square Theater School, the actor was determined to live fully and authentically. As he later told *Cosmopolitan*, “I wanted life, man—the real thing.” He was raised to value art over money, saying, “The message I got was ‘The arts are it. Business is the devil’s work.’”

Sound familiar yet?

This tall, lean actor with a rugged-yet-charming look and signature deep-set eyes went on to become a household name. His résumé includes iconic films like *Footloose*, *Beauty Shop*, and *The Woodsman*.

Yep—it’s **Kevin Bacon**.

Today, Kevin lives a totally different life. He and his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick, now own a 40-acre farm in Sharon, Connecticut. Their home is filled with goats, pigs, alpacas, and miniature horses.

“I love animals,” Kevin shared. “They’re a joy to be around and really calming.” The couple also grows their own herbs and vegetables and regularly shares glimpses of their farm life online. Kyra, in particular, has gone viral for her TikTok videos featuring their goats—so much so that fans now recognize her more for those clips than for her film and TV roles.

Reflecting on his early days, Kevin recalled how his old NYC roommate inspired him to cook. Back then, he relied on takeout, but watching his frugal roommate cook every meal opened his eyes. “He would make his own food, and I got very inspired by that,” he said.

Farm life has even changed Kevin’s diet. After forming strong bonds with their animals, he’s stopped eating goat and pig products. Kyra jokes that she won’t let him get more animals because he’d probably stop eating even more types of food.

Interestingly, the Bacons aren’t the only celebrities embracing rural life. Actress Jennifer Garner, for example, bought back her mom’s childhood farm to launch an organic baby food project.

From a cramped apartment in NYC to a peaceful life surrounded by animals and gardens, Kevin Bacon’s journey is as inspiring as it is unexpected.
