There is one particular sequence that has remained ingrained in Kidman’s memory throughout all of the episodes. During the course of her recollection, she recalled, “I remember lying on the floor in the bathroom… and I just wouldn’t get up in between takes.”
“I was just lying there, kind of broken and crying, and I remember at one point Jean-Marc coming over and just sort of placing a towel over me because I was just lying there in half-torn underwear and just basically on the ground with nothing on, and I was just like [gasps],” she said. “I was just lying there.”
She draws from the experiences that other women throughout the world have had.
“But at times, I would have flashes of images of women that have gone through this, and I’m like, ‘This is authentic, this is the truth, and this is what I have to do, and it would just come through like that,'” Kidman says, taking into consideration the experiences of other women who have faced challenges that are comparable to her own. But it was brilliantly written, I have to say, and Jean-Marc is an incredible director because he was able to modulate it and allow it to be and to develop and see and then kind of paste it together, you know.”
Despite the fact that it had a significant influence on her, it was essential for the job.
Although the cameras had stopped rolling, the emotional impact of those moments remained to linger long after they had ended. “I would put on a very brave face at work, and then I would go home, and I didn’t realize how much it had penetrated me,” Kidman said. “I would always pretend that I was not affected by it.” “It had a profound impact on me,” she said.
“When I would go home, I would feel ashamed, and that is the same emotions and feelings that Celeste was having,” Kidman added. “We were both experiencing very similar feelings.” In other words, our sentiments were extremely similar to one another, but I was prepared to do that for the job because I believed that it was something that was essential for the character.
She distinguishes the artist from the work as a whole.
Kidman provided the following explanation when asked about her perspective on storytelling and character portrayal: “When I talk about not censoring myself through my own inhibitions and not then affecting a story or a character because of my own inhibitions, I’m here to tell the story and to be true to the art. I’m not here to bring my own problems in terms of what I feel comfortable with, not comfortable with.” I have to go and figure out how to deal with that situation so that I can come to the job as a pure vessel, if that does make any sense.
Women are better able to understand the concept of domestic abuse as a result of her acting.
As Kidman reflects on her time on the program, she is filled with an overwhelming feeling of appreciation for the enormous influence that her involvement in the show has had on other women. “I’m glad that it’s created the conversation, and I’m glad that it sort of pulled the veil off,” she revealed and said. I have had the most incredible emails from individuals who have said that they now understand why women remain […], and if it is so powerful that it affects the life of just one person, then that is very remarkable for me.
