When Oliver Widger arrived in Hawaii, he was greeted with wide arms, and there were a lot of them.

After receiving a diagnosis that carried the possibility of paralysis, Widger, who is 29 years old, decided to leave his job in corporate America in order to sail with his cat Phoenix. As a result, he accumulated 1.8 million followers on Instagram. Last month, he embarked on his journey from Oregon, having had a year to prepare for it. After a voyage that lasted for three weeks and three days, the internet star finally arrived at his first destination, which was Hawaii. The people of the state greeted him in a manner that was fittingly epic.

Widger and Phoenix were greeted by a mob of shouting enthusiasts the instant they arrived on the island of Oahu on Saturday, May 24. Some of these supporters were already there before they even made it to shore.

It was shown in aerial and sea-level film that was published by the Waikiki Yacht Club that many boats paddled and rowed alongside the passengers in order to accompany them to the club, where a “welcome celebration” was waiting for the human-feline pair.

“With just a few days to be ready, we were able to pull it off! Thank you so much to everyone who came out to give @sailing-with_phoenix the warmest Hawaiian welcome it could possibly get! Over the video of the water greeting, the yacht club inscribed their message. “We are so honored to be your first stop on this unbelievable journey, Oliver, and we couldn’t be more proud of you!”

In a picture on Instagram Stories, the yacht club showed attendees waiting in line outside forty-five minutes before the event was scheduled to begin. A large number of people, including journalists, fans of Widger, and Governor Josh Green of Hawaii, came to the establishment in order to meet the viral traveler.

As soon as Widger arrived, the celebrations began in full swing, with live music, hula, and a gift table, as stated on the yacht club’s Instagram account.

Widger was openly anxious when addressing the audience at the occasion, as reported by the Associated Press. This is despite the fact that he is quite open about sharing his journey online.

He also said that he was experiencing “really weird” feelings, according to the Associated Press. He stated, “I just feel like I have to, like, hold on to things to not fall over.” This was after he had been at sea for twenty-four days continuously.

“I think a lot of people are, you know, you’re grinding at your job all day long and it doesn’t really matter how much money you make at this point,” Widger remarked in response to the throng, as reported by the Associated Press. Widger was not only addressing the audience, but also explaining why they had came to see him. The fact that everyone is simply trying to make ends meet is exhausting, and it’s what everyone else is doing.

He continued by saying, “It’s just that the world is in a weird place, and I think people have seen that it’s possible to break out of your confinement.”

In addition to delivering his talk, Widger also visited with fans in what the yacht club referred to as a “receiving line,” during which he engaged in conversation and took photographs with them. The company posted a video of the meet-and-greet along with the caption, “Don’t worry, he’s getting breaks.”

Additionally, the yacht club uploaded video of the gift table that was present at the occasion. The gift station had items such as cards for both passengers, as well as gear for Widger and food for Phoenix.

Following the conclusion of the formal celebrations, Widger posted a video on Instagram Stories in which he was settling into a hotel room and reminiscing on the day. This was his way of expressing his gratitude for the wonderful reception he received in Hawaii.

“Good morning, everyone. He started out by pointing to the shore of Hawaii as the sun was setting. “Today was crazy, but look where we are,” he said. Oh my goodness. I was successful.”

He went on to say, “We had a really good day, a wild day,” and he continued. “I need to take some time to comprehend all that just took place; it was completely ridiculous. For those of you who were able to make it, I am grateful. I apologize to those of you with whom I was unable to communicate. A huge number of people were there, and I would want to express my gratitude to the personnel at the marina. I am grateful to you.”
