It was Harris’s very first time attending the Met Gala, which was an evening devoted to Black culture and fashion. She was accompanied by her husband, Dough Emhoff.

It is now possible for Kamala Harris to check the Met Gala off her list of things to do.

At the Met Gala in 2025, which took place on Monday night, the former Vice President made her first appearance. According to Vogue, Harris attended the event while wearing a special Off-White gown made by creative director IB Kamara. Although she did not walk the legendary carpet outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, she did attend the event without walking the carpet.

An asymmetrical neckline and flowing sleeves that reached all the way down to the floor were two features that were included in the dramatic black-and-white outfit. According to Kamara, the gown was crafted using exquisite cady silks, which resulted in a “deep, luxurious texture,” with an air of sophistication and depth.

The style was completed with a few understated splashes of color, which were provided by Harris’ emerald green ring and its matching earrings.

In order to accompany her on the fashionable evening out, her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, dressed in Brunello Cucinelli and then joined her.

Instagram users were given their first glance at the Vice President’s high-fashion moment thanks to the charitable organization 15 Percent Pledge, which posted photos of the pair and designer Kamara on the social media platform.

In a statement to Vogue, which provided more photographs of Harris’s ensemble, the former vice president discussed the significance of the evening, drawing a connection between fashion and activism. He said, “Art has always had a huge effect on not just culture, but also our policies and politics… When it comes to the discourse about where we are right now and where we need to go, art has the ability to affect the conversation.

“Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” was the topic of this year’s Met Gala, and it was particularly appropriate for Harris, who is known for wearing bright and daring power suits throughout her whole political career.

During her first appearance on the cover of Vogue in 2021, just prior to the inauguration of former President Joe Biden, she wore not one but two distinct outfits, one of which was a powder blue one. She also donned a pair of black and white Converse Chuck Taylors, which were clearly exposed under her ankle-length jeans, as part of the second outfit that she wore.

At the gala, which was hosted by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, and, of course, Anna Wintour, the attention was placed on the spring show at the Costume Institute. The display was inspired by the book Slaves to Fashion and explored Black dandyism throughout the years.

The show “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” claims a post on the museum’s Instagram account. The post was made in reference to the exhibition.

And the celebrities made sure to express their take of the subject on Monday, with a wide range of celebrities, like Quinta Brunson, Rihanna, Demi Moore, Megan Thee Stallion, Sabrina Carpenter, and others, being there.
