According to reports, a little girl of four years old was discovered living alone in an apartment in New York City. It was stated that she had been living there for at least two weeks beside the remains of her deceased mother and brother.

According to a story that was published in the New York Post, the young lady, whose name is Promise Cotton, was rescued from the apartment in the Bronx that is situated on East 231st Street on Friday, April 18. This occurred when her grandpa, Hubert Cotton, who was worried about the situation, sent another member of the family to examine them.

A report from the site said that Hubert, who is 71 years old, sent his oldest granddaughter to investigate the situation, and that she eventually discovered Promise and the corpses. It was her grandpa who told her that Promise managed to live by “feeding herself with chocolate.”

According to the Post, the unknown relative saw the four-year-old girl famished and alone on her mother’s bed then snatched her and left the building before calling the police. The incident occurred after the relative discovered the child.

A lady, 38 years old, and a boy kid, 8 years old, were discovered “unconscious and unresponsive, inside the location,” according to a statement sent by the New York Police Department (NYPD) to PEOPLE. The police responded to the 911 call shortly before 8:30 p.m. local time. It was determined that the persons had passed away at the site.

The New York Police Department was quoted as saying, “The identity of the deceased is pending proper family notification.” During this time, the Post revealed that the individuals in question were Promise’s mother, Lisa Cotton, and her elder brother, Nazir Millim.

According to the New York Police Department, Promise was removed away from the location on April 18 and then sent to a nearby hospital for further medical observation and examination.

In an interview with the Post, Sabrina Coleson, a neighbor of the family, said that the mother and son had been dead for at least two weeks prior to the discovery of their corpses.

The source was also told by neighbors that the police and child services, namely the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) in New York City, had visited the apartment earlier in the week while Promise was imprisoned inside, but they had departed without entering the unit.

In an interview with the Post, Coleson said that staff of ACS “were here, but they didn’t do s—.” When the wellness check was scheduled for the day prior, they were there and rang people’s bells.

A spokesman for the American Child Safety Service (ACS) refused to comment on details of the case when they were contacted on Sunday, April 20. However, they did give a statement that said, “The safety and well-being of New York City’s children is our top priority.” This tragedy is being investigated by the New York Police Department.

According to sources who spoke to the Post, the reasons of death have not yet been confirmed; however, the police suspect that Lisa may have died from cardiac arrest, and Nazir, who was born prematurely and had a feeding tube, may have died from starvation.

According to the New York Police Department, there have been no arrests made, and the investigation is still underway.
