“Here we are, having waited sixteen years. Edwards, who has been through drug misuse, arrests, and rehabilitation throughout his son’s existence, says, “I’m sorry it took this long.” This statement is made as the two of them pass a significant threshold together.
After spending years dealing with sobriety and trying to keep the peace with the boy’s mother, Maci Bookout, Ryan Edwards continues to get closer with his son Bentley, who is now 16 years old.
A significant turning point in the connection between the father and son was made possible by Bookout during the new episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter that aired on Thursday. This occurred at a time when the relationship between him, Maci, her husband Taylor McKinney, and his girlfriend Amanda Conner seems to be more amicable than it has ever been.
At the beginning of the show, she was seen really assisting Amanda with packing, and she disclosed that she had just won full custody of her kid. She had previously disclosed on the program that her father was awarded custody of her son while she was incarcerated; similar to Ryan, she had struggled with drug misuse in the past. In light of the fact that Ryan’s children were about to be born to Maci and Mackenzie, as well as the fact that Amanda’s son Brandon was going to be born, it was time for them to relocate to a new house.
Amanda, on the other hand, was curious about whether or not Maci would be OK with Bentley staying over at their new residence.
This is going to be the very first time that he visits the place where Ryan is residing and expresses happiness about it. In all honesty, it had only occurred twice before,” Maci added, confirming that she thought it would be an excellent idea. “They’ve come such a long way and he adores you.”
When she was speaking with her husband Taylor later in the episode, she said that there is now “a safety level, a comfort level that’s never been there before” when it comes to Bentley being alone with his father without any other responsibilities. In addition, she expressed her excitement that Bentley would be able to create new memories with Ryan, Amanda, and all of their children. She went on to say, “I wanted it so badly for Bentley, but I didn’t think it would ever happen.”
After checking out the new home with his parents, Ryan and Amanda’s son Brandon — with Brandon adorably telling Bentley, “I’m really looking forward to having a big brother around” — Ryan then took his son aside for father-son chat outside.
Avoid sneaking out of the room. In a playful tone, he cautioned Bentley, “I don’t want to get a phone call in the middle of the night saying that you should come get me.” When I was your age, I was clearly a person who was always on the go. But you are a decent child, so there is no need for me to be concerned about you. We had children while your mother was still your age and I was a little bit older than you.
He then became more serious.
During the time that Edwards was working on his sobriety, he had a run of arrests and stays in rehabilitation under his belt. “You know for the longest, I’ve not been in a good place,” he said.
For a period of time, your mother had no desire whatsoever for us to be together. It made me angry, but I don’t blame her anymore,” he added, reflecting on how “wonderful” they get along today while hoping they could have arrived at this location “a lot sooner.” He was pleased with how well they got along.
On the other hand, I wouldn’t want to deal with me either, and I don’t blame them for that. It was nothing more than your mother trying to protect you, and I don’t blame her either,” he went on to say. “Here we are, having waited sixteen years. It is better now than it has ever been before, and I am sorry that it took this long.
If you ever decide to make the trip over here, I would be delighted to spend some time with you. I know that we haven’t been able to, but I would really love it,” he added, adding that he should always feel safe informing him or his mother if he felt “uncomfortable” with any circumstance as they go ahead.
Bentley made the comment, “I never really got to like spend the night at a house you’ve been in,” before Ryan recognized that “there were times I wasn’t there for you.” Bentley’s statement was followed by Ryan’s admission. His last statement was, “but I hope I’m showing you that it’s a little different.” This was the conclusion of the episode. However, I love you deeply.
While Bentley was telling his father that he loved him as well, the two of them embraced one other.
