Jacob Couch is now battling for his life after he was reportedly attacked by a guy armed with a hatchet when he and his wife were waiting at a bus stop in Tucson.
An Alabama man is clinging to life after he was reportedly assaulted with a hatchet while waiting at a bus stop in Tucson, Arizona, with his wife. The incident may be described as a brutal and apparently random act of violence.
At around ten o’clock in the morning on April 12, Jacob Couch, who was originally from Arab, Alabama, was injured by a violent blow to the back of his neck. Who is the suspected perpetrator of the attack? An individual who, according to the authorities, was under the influence of alcohol and engaged in a senseless act of violence.
Jacob is reportedly on life support at Banner University Medical Center at the present time, as reported by the local broadcaster KYMA. During that occasion, his wife, Kristen Couch, was there, and she is now coming out about the situation.
“It was very traumatic, and there was a lot of blood,” Kristen said describing the incident to KYMA. “I can’t remember the last time there’s been such a baseless, senseless crime like this.”
According to the police, Daniel Michael, who is 25 years old, was taken into custody three days later after he reportedly confessed to the assault when he was shown surveillance video. The allegations against Michael include aggravated assault with a dangerous object and inflicting severe bodily harm. Michael was also charged with causing serious physical injury. Inmate documents from Pima County that were acquired by PEOPLE indicate that he is now being detained on a cash bail of one million dollars.

After experiencing a miscarriage in 2024, Kristen said that she and Jacob had been working hard to reconstruct their lives to the best of their abilities. They relocated to Los Angeles in the hopes of starting again, but after almost a year of finding it difficult to make ends meet, the couple made the decision to go back to Alabama. Their travel back east was interrupted by the incident that took place.
When the alleged assault took place, she said that the pair was waiting at a bus stop that was less than a mile away from the campus of the University of Arizona.
When Kristen was asked by KGUN to recount the incident, she said, “I told the man we’re leaving,” adding how the suspect reportedly began shouting at them. “My husband bent down to grab our stuff, and he just came up behind him … and walked away.”
“Seeing your husband get almost decapitated and being the only one to help like it’s, hard,” she said during the conversation with KOLD. It was also stated by the site that it is not anticipated that he would survive his injuries.
Since that time, Jacob’s family has said that he is still in serious condition, and they have started a GoFundMe campaign to assist with travel expenses.
“It hurts knowing that I couldn’t be there to protect him,” his younger brother, Luke Couch, said in an interview reported by KYMA. “He didn’t deserve this.”
