Julia has often discussed how music became her refuge, a place where she could process emotions of identity, belonging, and suffering. She was adopted as a youngster from Guatemala, and she did so in the United States.
As she spoke to the producers during the rehearsals, her voice was shaking as she said, “I never thought I’d get this far.” On the other hand, I believe that people need to see someone like myself succeed.

Following the event, her supporters filled social media with messages, congratulating her for putting her heart above her skills and referring to her as the “dark horse” of the tournament.
