After going missing on September 12, 2024, a South Carolina student who was in the second grade is said to have drowned in a pond that was located close to his school.
Lionel Ramirez Cervantes, who was eight years old at the time of his death, was a student at Bells Crossing Elementary School in Simpsonville, Indiana, according to heartbreaking accounts. On September 12, at around eleven o’clock in the morning, he was last seen at the school before he disappeared.
According to statements made by several sources, the little youngster fled both his classroom and the school itself. It was at that time that he was accompanied by two other students and three members of the staff; the staff members attempted to give pursuit, but they were unsuccessful in locating him.
After Lionel ran away from school, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office began a search operation to locate him. However, it has been alleged that the search operation ultimately resulted in a tragic outcome.
The department sent out a message at 2:10 p.m., stating, “Lionel is still missing.” During the time that we are continuing our search efforts, we would like to request that members of the community who are requesting assistance in the search do not get out of their cars and start searching “on foot.” This is because we have dogs on the ground who are looking for anything based on sight. The most important request is that individuals examine their homes and surveillance systems to see whether or not they have noticed any activity on their property that may have caught Lionel’s activities.
Following that, at 4:12 p.m., the sheriff’s office released a message informing the public that Lionel’s corpse had been moved on.
Lionel Ramirez Cervantes, who was eight years old and had run away from Bells Crossing Elementary School, has been found in a body of water off Lenox Lake Drive, which is a short distance from the school. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office is devastated to deliver this news. At around 11:10 a.m., Lionel was last seen near the playground, according to the post that was published on Facebook. He was claimed to have also fled the school.
“Deputies rushed to the scene to begin search and rescue operations, which they ultimately carried out throughout the whole day. The corpse of Lionel was discovered by members of the diving team in a body of water located off of Lenox Lake Drive just after three o’clock in the afternoon. Victim coordinators are there at the scene to provide assistance to the family as they deal with the aftermath of this tragic event. During this difficult time, we are keeping the family in our thoughts and prayers.

Lionel’s mother, Dalia Cervantes, who is a single mother of five children, expressed her grief on social media not long after the news of her son’s demise spread.
It was today that I got a phone call from Lionel school informing me that he had vanished. In a few hours, he was discovered in a stream that was located close. I have no doubt that he is now in a more favorable environment, and that he is with his father. On the other hand, my son did not have to lose his life in such a manner,” she posted on Facebook.

Negligence was the reason of his dying. My Leo is no longer with me at this time. It is my sincere desire to express my gratitude to everyone who has taken the time to express their support and sympathies to me and my children. The video that I saw does not provide any justification for their behavior.
Do not be disturbed, This is Lionel Ramirez Cervantes.
