In the course of a routine lunch excursion with her son, Tamie Konzier, who was ten years old at the time, Betty, an 81-year-old server, had an event that would forever alter her life.
Tamie was drawn to Betty not just because of her kind nature, but also because of the obvious symptoms of physical strain that she was exhibiting while she was working. After that, Tamie overheard something that would have a lasting impact on both of their lives.
“My heartstrings were just pulled,” Tamie says in an exclusive interview with People magazine. I was able to detect that she was getting older and that she was limping a little bit. After that, I overheard her telling the table behind me, which consisted of her regular clients, that she was unable to retire quite yet since the amount of money she received from Social Security was insufficient.
Betty said that the amount of Social Security she got each month was little more than $900, which was not sufficient to meet all of her expenses. The discovery had a profound impact on Tamie, and as a result, she decided to leave a tip of forty dollars and create a TikTok video in which she asked viewers to assist in making a difference.
When Tamie first started working on the video, she had high hopes that it would become so popular that she could use the money she earned via TikTok’s Creator Rewards program to surprise Betty with a higher tip on her subsequent visit. On the other hand, the video acquired popularity on the internet in a matter of hours, rapidly gathering millions of views and striking a chord with people all over the globe.
The comment section was inundated with offers of assistance from unknown individuals, and Tamie was strongly encouraged to launch a GoFundMe. “To tell you the truth, I didn’t even consider starting a GoFundMe,” Tamie reveals. I was under the impression that I could earn one hundred dollars via TikTok.
In response to the huge amount of support, Tamie initiated the fundraising campaign with the intention of raising a total of $25,000. Because so many people were inspired by Betty’s tale, donations came pouring in at a pace that had never been seen before.
Just one week after meeting Betty, Tamie had already collected more than $323,000 via GoFundMe alone. In addition, she had received further donations through Venmo and Cash App, which added up to a total of $4,650. An additional $1,544 was added to TikTok’s profits before taxes as a result of the popular video.
Exactly one week after their first contact, Tamie decided to get together with Betty once again to discuss the news over lunch. Tamie described Betty’s response as being very emotional, despite the fact that Betty would have preferred not to go on camera or have her voice recorded for TikTok.
Tamie reports that the individual said that she had been praying for a miracle and that she now feels as if her prayers have been fulfilled. The whole thing has made her extremely happy, but it has also made her quite humble.
Through the whole of the procedure, Betty’s modesty has been readily apparent. Betty, a single mother who worked relentlessly following the death of her husband while her children were small, has spent decades helping others despite the fact that she has been the recipient of difficult circumstances herself.

According to Tamie, “I’m not going against her wishes,” despite the fact that “people are calling me out like, ‘We wanted to see the reveal.'” She did not make any requests for any of this.
When contributions exceeded expectations, Tamie was also confronted with challenges in terms of logistics. Tamie has found that one of the most satisfying elements of this experience has been the opportunity to serve as a model for her son Leo, who was there when the first time that they met Betty. She adds, “I hope he is aware that he should always be kind to people because I tell him that every day when [my kids] leave,” and she emphasizes the need of being kind to others. It is my hope that it will teach him empathy.
Taking into consideration the whole of the event, Tamie expresses her hope that her narrative would serve as a source of motivation for others. “If you can help someone, don’t hesitate; just do it,” she plainly states.
Tamie has reported that the ultimate sum that has been raised for Betty so far is $328,739.18. This is an astounding amount that will enable Betty to finally contemplate retirement after decades of hard labor.
