Although Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi married young, the choice was years in the making.

During the most recent episode of Call Her Daddy, Alex Cooper asked Brown when she realized she could “actually see a future” with Jon Bon Jovi’s 22-year-old son, whom she married in a private ceremony in May 2024 at the age of 20. The actress, who is now 21 years old, then thought back on what exactly led to the couple’s marriage.

Brown started the podcast episode, which aired on Tuesday, March 11, by saying, “We’ve been together for four years, so I guess maybe when we moved in together.”

“Oh, I really don’t think I could ever see you as anything else,” I concluded when we began spending our daily lives together and caring for our pets. Never again do I want to be with anybody else. The Electric State actor remembered telling Cooper, 30, “I want you, I don’t want to date, I don’t want to meet anyone.”

However, it was the couple’s discussions about their worldview and desire to have children, among other topics, that convinced Brown that Jake was the one. At the moment, she was unaware of whether he shared her sentiments.

“We started talking about really, really big things that I’d obviously never spoken about, and I’m already very young, so I’ve never spoken about that with boys anyway,” the Stranger stuff actor said to Cooper when they began discussing politics and how they wanted to raise their children. But I was like, ‘S—,’ to be allowed to even consider such things. Well, maybe I do want to spend the rest of my life with him.

Brown remarked, “But I obviously didn’t know if he felt that way.” “We discussed getting married, but I wasn’t really sure when that would happen. I thought, “It makes sense,” when he proposed. Everything fell into place.

The Stranger Things actress said that having positive role models for love as children was beneficial for both her and her current spouse. Regarding her in-laws, Bon Jovi and his longterm wife, Dorothea Bongiovi, Brown said, “His parents got married really young — they’re high school sweethearts.”

“My parents were married at a very early age. When they were 19, they got together,” Brown said. Thus, we just had very young marriages. As children, we had excellent role models, so we didn’t see any difference. You know, we weren’t jaded by anything else.

“You just don’t see anything else,” she said, referring to the couple’s families’ excellent role models for enduring love.

In an interview with Vanity Fair in February 2025, Brown spoke about feeling secure about getting married to Jake. The two were initially connected in 2021 and were described as “pretty united.”

“We talked about our political views, what kind of family we want to build, the kind of home we want to live in, the kind of relationship we’re looking for, the kind of careers we want,” the actress who plays Enola Holmes said at the time. “It’s such an important decision, and we wanted to make sure we were making the right one.”

“I was aware of it. Jake “is the first man [she] ever loved and been in love with,” Brown said, adding that “it always felt right with him.”
