When it comes to his family, Marlon Wayans is not advocating for anything other than support.

After Soulja Boy called Kai a homophobic slur in a tweet that has since been removed, the actor, who is the father of his son Kai, who is 24 years old and who he revealed to be transgender in 2023, responded to Soulja Boy in a post on X on Wednesday, February 12th.

The rapper, who is 34 years old, had tweeted two news linked to Wayans welcoming and supporting his son after his transition. Wayans’ tweet included an image of a prior tweet from the rapper, who had asked whether it was something that “run[s] in the family.”

The reaction that Wayans provided was as follows: “If @souljaboy had a career, he could get his career terminated for this kind of slander.” Thank goodness, he hasn’t been relevant since the year 2007.

It was two days after Soulja Boy called him out in a post on February 10 that the White Chicks actor sent a tweet. In that post, Soulja Boy branded him a “b—-,” said that he was “not funny,” and claimed that he was “selling [his] soul.”

Since then, Wayans and the rapper, whose actual name is DeAndre Cortez Way, have engaged in a protracted back-and-forth on the site, during which they have spat obscenities with one another.

During an appearance on The Breakfast Club in 2023, Wayans said that his eldest kid, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend Angelica Zachary, as well as his current child, Shawn, who is 23 years old, had begun transitioning.

“I have a daughter who has changed into a son,” was the statement. “My daughter Amai is now Kai,” he stated as he recounted how the incident inspired his comedy special Rainbow Child, which portrayed his “transition as a parent, going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance.” He went on to say that the experience prompted him to create the television show.

“I think there’s a lot of parents out there who need to have that message, and I know I’m dealing with it,” he said, pointing out that it’s been “a very painful situation for me, but it’s one of the best, funniest hours [of comedy] I could ever imagine.”

According to him, his kid is “brilliant,” “the most well-read” member of the family, and “the smartest” of all of them.

Wayans described Kai’s transformation as a moment of change for him as well, both as a parent and as a person, in an interview with PEOPLE from the previous year.

He recalled his path from “defiance to acceptance,” saying, “It took me all of a week, and in that week I grew the most that I ever did in my life.” He was referring to the change that occurred in his life.

You have an appreciation for the value of children and the splendor of love that is not conditional. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters to me is that my kid is content. This is the only thing that matters to me.
