Jane Seymour is talking about how she was inspired by her old friend Christopher Reeve in the last ten years of his life.
At the 2025 AARP Movies for Grownups Awards on Saturday, February 8, the 73-year-old actress gave Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story the best documentary prize. When wife Dana Morosini required a vacation after the 1995 riding accident that left the Superman actor paraplegic, Seymour told PEOPLE earlier in the evening that she used aid care for Reeve, with whom she costarred in the 1980 film Somewhere in Time.
We were and still are extremely close, particularly after he suffered the injuries. Additionally, Seymour noted, “Dana and I would occasionally play tag team. When she couldn’t be there, she would ask me if I had come and run interference.” “Chris’ sense of humor has never faded. Never. He was humorous, after all. He was a lot of fun. And he took on a task that is unthinkable to have to live that way, therefore I believe he was my biggest motivation.

As she has said before, Seymour emphasized how difficult it must have been for Reeve, who preferred isolation, to need 24-hour care. “We would discuss that for a long time,” she remarked. “Now, I wake up in the morning whether I like it or not,” he remarked. “Every morning when I wake up, I’ve just woken up from a dream where I’m sailing alone,” he remarked. I’m flying by myself. I wake up to the sound of machinery, and then I see someone who has to tend to every aspect of my body.
According to the Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman actor, Reeve had to teach him that those who are taking care of him “bring the outside world with them.”
“I recall thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, how hard must that be?'” as I listened to him. “Seymour said.”
“Everyone in life will have challenges, some more than others,” Seymour said of Reeves’ legacy, which includes the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
“Acceptance is the hardest thing to do,” she said. And you’ll have a purpose if you can accept, let your heart open, and try to assist someone else. And the key to pleasure is that. Additionally, you might feel great about yourself if you have a purpose. You are like a magnet when you are happy with yourself. Individuals desire to be a part of something positive. They don’t want to spend time with folks who think that life is awful. Why me? Additionally, they are drawn to those who are actively changing the world. And it was what drew him in. He was a true Superman because of it.
