After meeting with the authorities, John Ramsey is feeling “encouraged and hopeful.”

Ramsey met with Boulder officials, including Police Chief Stephen Redfearn, for 90 minutes earlier this week to talk about the murder of his daughter, JonBenét. JonBenét was slain inside their house in Boulder, Colorado, on December 26, 1996, and her crime has not yet been solved.

Ramsey tells PEOPLE, “The important thing is that I think they are just certainly committed to getting the case solved.” “I believe that they are very interested in utilizing the most up-to-date technology, which is genealogy research, and I think that this is the key that needs to be used.”

He adds, “I feel optimistic and I am feeling encouraged.” “I think that the most recent DNA technology will be used to solve this case.”

Ramsey, who has been outspoken about the use of modern laboratories that use genetic genealogy and other sophisticated DNA technologies to solve the cold case, attended the meeting at the Boulder Police Department on Monday, January 27, with a DNA specialist.

He states, “I wanted to ensure that the police were aware of the most recent technologies that are currently available for effective DNA testing and research.” “I think the most important thing for me to remember is that the police finally have capable leaders, which I believe they have not had for 10, 8, or 28 years.” A significant advancement in leadership. That is a positive development, and it is a good first step, since nothing was going to happen until that changed. I believe they are dedicated.

Ramsey thinks that if genetic genealogy is used, “there’s a 60, maybe 70% chance we’ll get an identity of the killer.”

He guesses that “the probability of success drops away down” without it.

Ramsey, who traveled from his home in Moab, Utah, to meet with officials, believes that all of the evidence in his daughter’s case should be examined again.

He claims that returning to Boulder was “really hard.”

He states, “I would not return there unless it was to do everything in my power to move the case forward.” “We left right away.”

He also did not drive by the house where he used to reside with his family. He adds, “It’s hard.”

The police have investigated a number of suspects over the years. John and his late wife Patsy, as well as their son Burke, were among the first people to be considered suspects. The authorities have now apologized for suspecting them.

Ramsey said that the probe has been “extremely frustrating and disappointing” throughout the years.

He recalls, “We called the police that morning to ask for help, but they didn’t help us at all.” “It was incredibly annoying, frustrating, and infuriating.”

Ramsey told PEOPLE in the past that he thinks a disguised burglar who broke into the house of a 12-year-old girl in Boulder, Colorado, nine months after JonBenét was murdered, may be the person who killed his daughter. The child’s mother frightened the suspect away, causing him to run off.

Ramsey claims that “theoretically, it is certainly possible that his daughter’s killer is still alive.”The FBI profile essentially said that he was probably in his 20s or 30s at the time, so it’s been 30 years since then. So, according to the profile, he would be 60 years old in theory.

He continues, “This person is very evil, pure evil, and they did this.” He is a psychopath. I have also been informed that there is a significant chance that he has killed other individuals, including children, either before or after JonBenét. It is very possible that this guy has done this again.

The body of JonBenét was discovered in the basement of her family’s house. Patsy phoned the police that morning when she realized that their daughter was not at home. Patsy informed the police during the call that she had found a ransom letter that was penned on a pad with a black Sharpie that belonged to the family. The message was really disturbing.

The message requested $118,000, which was the same amount of a corporate bonus that John had just earned, in exchange for JonBenét’s safe return.

Ramsey said, “The reason I am really motivated is to finish this chapter for the sake of my children and grandchildren.”

He adds, “This cloud.” “And for the sake of their reputation, it has to be restored. That is the reason why they kept being so pushy in their attempts to reach a settlement.
