“It was one of the oldest homes in the Palisades and so spectacularly beautiful,” the actress wrote, calling her childhood home a “sanctuary where we felt most safe,” and where we “celebrated the best moments of our lives.”
Zooey Deschanel is sharing her feelings over the heartbreaking loss of her childhood house, which was one of the many homes that were destroyed in the flames that swept through Los Angeles.
The actress posted on Instagram on Friday to convey the terrible news that the house in Pacific Palisades where she and her sister, Emily Deschanel, grew up had been destroyed in the Palisades fire.
Zooey, who is 45 years old, provided pictures of the beautiful Spanish-style house from the 1920s before and after the fire in her post. She also included pictures of herself, Emily, who is 48 years old, and their family at the house over the years.
“The house where I grew up. She started the caption for the image by saying, “A marvel of 1920s Spanish revival architecture.” It was one of the oldest residences in the Palisades, and it was so incredibly lovely that it was filled with many amazing memories. It wasn’t a mansion, but it was comfortable, beautiful, and one-of-a-kind, and it was just right for me.
Because the living room has 14-foot ceilings and stained glass windows, it casts beautiful shadows at the end of the day. One of my friends who I grew up with dubbed it “The Church.” She said, “And to me, it was holy, a sanctuary where we felt the safest,” before reminiscing about family memories. “We celebrated the best moments of our lives there, including Christmas dinners, Easter egg hunts, trick-or-treating, weddings, birthdays, and baby showers.”
The actress of New Girl later shared the details of the treasured items that have now been gone.
“The family portraits that decorated the corridors, the artwork, the piano that I learnt to play on, the wedding china, and the furniture that my great-great-grandfather made… “All of the reminders of generations past have disappeared without a trace,” she remarked.

Zooey pointed out that she and her family “are not alone,” pointing to other communities that have been cruelly devastated.
The streets of my boyhood in Pacific Palisades have been almost completely transformed from what they used to be, much as the charming community of Alta Dena in Los Angeles. She wrote, “So many people have lost so much.”
She then expressed her appreciation to the Los Angeles community, the firemen, and her friends who have been there for her throughout this difficult period.
Zooey expressed gratitude to everyone who has supported them, their neighborhood, and Los Angeles as a whole by saying, “Thank you.” “We consider the firemen who have been fighting tirelessly to protect everyone to be our genuine heroes. To the friends who have been so kind to think of us at this time: you have phoned and texted us, come to see us, prepared us meals, sent clothing to my parents who left with nothing, diverted us with laughter, and sobbed with us when we needed it. Your compassion is the balm that has made this situation easier to endure.
“To the people we don’t know who have raised our spirits with their kind actions: you are the true definition of community.” She said, “We appreciate all of you for demonstrating the kindness that you have in your hearts.” “You have no idea how much this means to us.”
The actress from Elf went on to add more to her caption in a remark, saying that Friday was her 45th birthday.
“Okay, and for the last part… yeah… today is my birthday.” “And I feel kind of weird celebrating,” she remarked, before explaining how her fans may celebrate her big day. “Perhaps you could do something for someone who has lost their home today.” Is it just a text or a phone call? Or, if you are able to, I would be grateful if you could help the Los Angeles firemen Relief Association, which provides assistance to our firemen, and/or Baby2Baby, which has been providing necessary items to communities who have been impacted by the fires.
She ended her heartbreaking message by saying, “I know this is long, but if you’re still reading, thank you for commemorating this beautiful home. 💔”
Both fans and Deschanel’s famous pals sent messages in the comments area of her article to express their sympathy.
Melanie Lynskey said, “I have so many happy memories in this beautiful house that I can’t stop thinking about all your beautiful family pictures.” I love all of you so much ❤️ it actually breaks my heart.
Amanda Kloots said, “I am sending you so much love, and I am so sorry for your loss. ❤️”
Kate Hudson commented, “Love you ❤️,” while Josh Gad added, “I am so sorry.”
Max Greenfield and Damon Wayans Jr., who co-starred with Deschanel on New Girl, sent love emojis to express their support.
At the same time, Deschanel’s fiancé, Jonathan Scott, who is known for his role on Property Brothers, also sent a touching note, promising her that he would do all in his power to “restore” the house to its “original beauty.”
“💔 I have so many happy memories. He remarked, “It is truly devastating.” “Be assured that I will do everything in my power to restore its original beauty.” The original house is irreplaceable in terms of its beauty and history. However, this is the finest way we can pay tribute to it. ❤️.”
