Amidst the horrific flames that have been raging in Los Angeles, Leonardo DiCaprio is continuing his work as a philanthropist by donating one million dollars to fund relief efforts for wildfires.

Wednesday was the day that the movie actor made the news on social media, stating that the gift will be made in partnership with his nonprofit Re:wild to assist with both short-term needs and long-term rehabilitation after the fires.

The Rapid Response Program of the organization was developed specifically to deal with incidents and crises that are related to the environment. The first assistance will be provided to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, the California Fire Foundation, World Central Kitchen, the California Community Foundation, the Pasadena Humane Society, and the SoCal Fire Fund.

Leo’s contribution of one million dollars to the relief effort for wildfire victims is a highly personal and meaningful gesture, given that Los Angeles is Leo’s birthplace.

Leo is just one of many celebrities who have come out to assist relief efforts for wildfires. The wildfires have caused thousands of families to be relocated, 24 lives to be lost, and countless animals to be injured.

Beyoncé, Paris Hilton, The Eagles, Metallica, Eva Longoria, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and a great number of other celebrities have also shown their support by making substantial gifts and doing their bit to assist those who have been affected by wildfires.
