PEOPLE has been informed by a friend that Candy Spelling has been forced to evacuate her house as a result of the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.

She is the mother of Beverly Hills, 90210 star Tori Spelling and her brother Randy, as well as the widow of their late TV producer father Aaron Spelling. Nikki Haskell, a friend of the 79-year-old Broadway producer, confirmed to PEOPLE on Thursday, January 9, that the home in Malibu, California, that was destroyed by the Palisades Fire, has been destroyed by fire.

According to Haskell, who spoke with PEOPLE, “It’s the house she owned with Aaron for fifty years.”

Despite the fact that she has said that “Candy is safe,” she acknowledges that “this feels like an apocalyptic crisis.” Candy was living at her apartment in Beverly Hills at the time of the incident, which occurred while work was taking place at the Malibu property. The first news outlet to report on the event was TMZ.

The Wall Street Journal published an article in 2019 stating that the pair, who had been married from 1968 until Aaron’s loss in 2006, had purchased their Malibu house in 1972. Subsequently, in the 1990s, they added the home that was next to their Malibu home to their property. Seven bedrooms were included in the oceanfront mansion that was 8,000 square feet in size, according to the publication.

The well-known Spelling home is not the same as the Malibu property. The Spelling mansion is a custom-built house that is situated in the Holmby Hills district of Los Angeles, about 30 miles east of Malibu on the coast. It was inside this neighborhood where the family of four used to reside in the 1990s and throw extravagant parties.

The French chateau-style home, which included 123 rooms, was sold in 2011 by Candy, who was a best-selling novelist in the New York Times. Following the passing of her husband, she had adorned the 56,500 square foot home with one-of-a-kind embellishments, such as rooms specifically designated for present wrapping, flower cutting, and a room that was only devoted to her miniature doll collection.

The statement was made by her to PEOPLE at the time. “I spent four years, 24-7, planning this house,” she said. “I need something more compact, something that is just for me. The time has come for a change, but I will have to give up certain things in order to make it happen.

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the catastrophic Palisades Fire started on January 7 in the Pacific Palisades district of Los Angeles. Since then, the fire has consumed over 17,000 acres and there has been no control of the blaze. The communities of Pasadena and Altadena, located in the eastern part of Los Angeles County, are the origin of yet another huge fire that has been named the Eaton fire. This fire has already spread over more than 20,000 acres. In addition, there are further four fires that are still burning in the area.

As of Thursday, January 9, more than one hundred thousand inhabitants are required to evacuate their homes. As of Wednesday, local authorities indicated that there were five losses; however, they added the following day that a specific loss toll has not yet been confirmed.

Residents of Malibu, Santa Monica, Altadena, and other communities were compelled to evacuate their homes. Among those who were forced to leave were a number of celebrities.

There were a number of celebrities who were rumored to have lost their houses, including Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, Anna Faris, Cobie Smulders and Taran Killam, John Goodman, Jennifer Grey, and others. There are a number of celebrities who have verified that their properties have been taken away, including Paris Hilton, Miles Teller, Ricki Lake, and Billy Crystal.

During an Instagram post, Hilton expressed her openness over the loss of her own Malibu house, writing about the happy memories she had associated with her time there.

“Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience,” she said in a portion of her letter. “This house was the place where we created a lifetime’s worth of priceless memories… It is the place where Phoenix took his first steps, and it is also the place where we dreamt of creating memories with London that would last a lifetime… In spite of the fact that the loss is tremendous, I am trying to keep my appreciation that my family is safe. All of the families who have been impacted by these fires are in my thoughts and prayers now.Residents of Malibu, Santa Monica, Altadena, and other communities were compelled to evacuate their homes.
