The passing of Tommy Lazzaro, a former quarterback for the Central Michigan Chippewas, was revealed by the education institution on Thursday. He had just 27 years under his belt.
There have been several stories that indicate that Lazzaro, who was born and raised in Monument, Colorado, was engaged in a hunting accident that resulted in his loss this past Sunday in Florida.
Lazzaro played for the Chippewas with a total of twenty appearances throughout the course of his career. In 2019, he was a member of the team that finished with an 8-6 record and advanced to the MAC Championship Game versus Miami (Ohio). With two touchdowns scored throughout the game, he was the team’s leader.
Lazzaro achieved 758 yards and five touchdowns via the air during his time at CMU. Additionally, he accumulated 542 yards and 11 touchdowns on the run during his time there.

During his senior year, his teammates chose him to be the recipient of the Kurt Dobronski Award. This award is given to a player who exemplifies effort, energy, and enthusiasm for the program.
Following his graduation with a degree in business administration, he joined the Army and eventually rose through the ranks to become a sergeant. Both of his grandfathers and fathers had served their nation in the military.
In expressing his sympathies, Jim McElwain, who had previously served as Lazzaro’s coach, said, “When we took over the program, Tommy was truly our leader in so many ways.”
“CMU Football was fortunate to have him, and we will never forget all that he did for so many of us. We all will always remember him.” “Every single one of the Chippewas will miss him very much.”
