On Wednesday, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis Middleton, together with their parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, participated in the customary walk to church that the royal family takes on Christmas Day.

The youngsters, who were accompanied by their grandpa, King Charles, smiled and welcomed well-wishers who lined the path as the family made their way to church service at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham in Norfolk. This is the location where the royal family comes every year to enjoy the holiday.

The young family, which consisted of five members, presented a unified face by wearing costumes that were coordinated in tones of blue and green. This was done in response to the difficult year that the family had experienced. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the children joined their parents in extending their wishes to the well-wishers who had lined the road in order to get a sight of the family and to celebrate the holiday season. The flowers and other little presents were delivered to them at the same time as they were shaking hands and taking pictures.

As the children eagerly gathered their candies and trinkets from the throng, William shouted, “Flowers [for Charlotte], chocolate [for George and Louis]!” This was a wonderful event that took place. In a nutshell!”

The Princess of Wales, who is 42 years old, was diagnosed with cancer in January, after an abdominal surgery that was scheduled to take place. This has been a challenging time for George, who is 11 years old, Charlotte, who is 9 years old, and Louis, who is 6 years old. When Kate made the announcement in March that she was undergoing chemotherapy and treatment for cancer, she said that she and William “have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.” It is not hard to think that this has taken some time.

Up until the Trooping the Colour ceremony in June, the three siblings kept out of the public eye. They went to the ceremony with their parents in order to commemorate the formal birthday of their grandpa, King Charles, who was also diagnosed with cancer this year.

In an emotional video that was released on September 9th, Kate revealed that she has finished her chemotherapy treatment. The film also included William, who is 42 years old, and their children. The choice to shoot in Norfolk in August was a significant one, since the family of five cherishes the time they spend at their country house, Anmer Hall. They are presently staying there while they celebrate Christmas with other members of the royal family on the Sandringham estate. Will Warr was the director of the video.

It was an uncommon decision for the Wales family, since they generally release a new picture for the holiday, but they chose to utilize a moment from the emotional video for their Christmas card, which was presented to the world on December 19. This action drove home how significant the video announcement was to the family.

George, Charlotte, and Louis supported their mother at her annual Together at Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey on December 6. Additionally, in another return to normalcy after a very abnormal year, they are participating in the traditional Christmas festivities at Sandringham. These festivities include the annual walk to church at St. Mary Magdalene, which is nestled on Sandringham’s grounds, which takes place on the morning of December 25.

“It’s been such a difficult year for them,” Sophie Mirman, creator and creative director of Trotters, told PEOPLE of George, Charlotte, and Louis. Trotters is the company that is responsible for the burgundy coat that Princess Charlotte wore to the carol performance earlier this month. The sight of all of them together is really amazing.

Those views were mirrored by William in November, when he said that the year 2024 has been “the hardest year in my life.”

It’s been a terrible episode. Indeed, this year has been the most challenging in my whole life…They have handled the things that they have done, and I am very proud of both my wife and my father for how they have handled it. However, from the perspective of my own family, it has been a terrible experience,” he went on to say.

An individual who is close to the royal family has said the following about Kate: “Life-threatening illnesses bring about a reconsideration of priorities.” Her and William have always made it quite apparent that the most important thing in their lives is their family.
