According to the police in Panama City, Florida, a father has been found de.ad, his wife has been shot, and the person who is responsible for the shooting is the stepfather of the woman.
In the aftermath of a “dispute” with his own wife, Newell Mock, who is 67 years old, is suspected of shooting his stepdaughter and his son-in-law, resulting in the loss of the latter. He then allegedly took his own life.
An investigation conducted by the Panama City Police Department revealed that the event occurred on December 13th. Newell allegedly “armed himself with a handgun” after an altercation between Mock and his wife, Rhonda, which caused his wife to “flee from their home.” According to the police, this action caused Newell to threaten his wife.
According to the allegations, Mock went to the residence of Jessica Johns, who is the daughter of his wife, after she had left.
“His anger was really directed at his wife,” Panama City Police Chief Mark Smith stated during a news conference earlier this week. “But when he couldn’t expel that anger towards her, he decided to hurt her family, in order to hurt her.” Smith made this statement in regards to the incident that occurred earlier this week.
According to the police, after he arrived at the Johns’ property, he “forcefully entered the residence and immediately engaged Jessica and [her husband] Joshua with gunfire, striking each of them several times;” It was referred to by Smith as a “targeted attack.” The two small children of the Johns were reportedly inside the house and asleep upstairs when the shooting took place, according to the authorities. The events that took place the next morning were relayed to them.
On the front porch, Mock was discovered seated with a firearm in his possession. The police arrived at the site and found him there. “Officers attempted to de-escalate Mock, but he refused to engage in dialogue before fatally shooting himself,” according to law enforcement, “Mock did not threaten the officers, and no officers discharged their weapon.”
Inside, Joshua was discovered to have passed away, and Jessica was brought to the hospital to get medical attention for her injuries.
