At the 2024 Country Music Awards, Morgan Wallen was awarded the most desired trophy, however this is just a metaphor for the actual award.
On Wednesday, November 20, Wallen, who is 31 years old, was awarded the title of entertainer of the year at the Country Music Awards. However, Wallen was not present at the event, so presenter Jeff Bridges had to receive the award on behalf of the “Last Night” singer.
“Due to the fact that Morgan was unable to make it tonight, I will be accepting this award on his behalf,” Bridges said to the audience. “Alright, let’s hear it for Morgan!”
The reason why Wallen, who had just finished his One Night at a Time tour in October, did not show up for the celebrations that took place that evening is still a mystery. As he entered the ceremony, he was the artist who had received the most nominations, including nominations for entertainer, single of the year, song of the year, male singer of the year, music video of the year, and musical event of the year.
In response to PEOPLE’s request for comment, a representative for Wallen did not immediately respond.
The singer, who had previously been nominated for entertainer of the year in 2023 and 2022, finally triumphed against Chris Stapleton, Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, and Luke Combs to take home the trophy.
After being caught on tape using a racist slur, the celebrity was ruled unable to compete for honors in solo categories at the 2021 Country Music honors. These categories included entertainer of the year and male singer of the year.
The following year, in 2023, he made his comeback to the awards event, where he performed with HARDY and Post Malone in an homage to Joe Diffie alongside them.
In March of 2023, Wallen published his third studio album, titled One Thing at a Time. Earlier this year, he, together with Post Malone, achieved a No. 1 hit with the song “I Had Some Help.”
“Love Somebody” was the most recent song that the country artist released, and it was released on October 18th.
In Charlotte, North Carolina, he completed the last leg of his huge One Night at a Time World tour within the same week.
There is little doubt that One Thing at a Time is one of the most successful albums that he has ever released. It not only made its debut at the top of the Billboard 200, but it also managed to maintain that position for a total of 19 weeks in a row, making it the country album that has maintained the top spot on the list for the greatest amount of time.
The song “Last Night” from the album became Wallen’s first single to ever hit the number one slot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also went on to get a nomination for the Grammy Award in the category of best country song at the 2024 Annual Awards.
On Wednesday, November 20, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., ABC will broadcast live coverage of the 58th Annual Country Music Awards, which will take place in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. The next day, the episode is available to view on Hulu.
