Henry Winkler, who played Alf on “Happy Days,” was a guest on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” on April 19, 2023. During his time there, he expressed his support for Kelly Clarkson, who is the host’s daughter. Both River Clarkson and the actress and famous writer dealt with dyslexia. Henry and the audience were informed by Clarkson that while Henry was in the second grade, he was being tormented because he was unable to read as well as other children his age. The kind letter that the actor left for tiny River brought tears to her mother’s eyes.
In 2011, Henry discussed the difficulty that his disability had for his parents. The celebrity disclosed, in the course of an interview, how the challenges brought on by his dyslexia generated tension in his relationship with his parents and made him a “disappointment” to them.

In 2011, Henry described the ways in which his difficulties in learning had impacted his whole life. He said that his parents, Harry and Anna Maria Winkler, had a difficult time accepting his dyslexia since he was a “disappointment to them,” and then he added:
“All that comes to mind when I think back to my school days are the arguments about why I wasn’t doing well, the groundings, and the ultimatums.”
He recounted a moment when he was unable to answer a question posed by a teacher and could yet sense their “disappointment.” The celebrity said that the other youngsters were staring at him as they ridiculed him for not knowing the answer when it was “so easy.” He was also aware of their eyes being on him.
Henry came clean and said, “I grew up thinking I was stupid,” and he needed a jackhammer to smash that notion of himself out of his head. He was the first to acknowledge that he lacked self-confidence and that, at first, he did his very best to keep up with his peers.
On the other hand, he remembered that he was baffled by what was taking place to him since words just would not enter his brain. The performer recalled being familiar with his work when he performed his spelling exercises at home, but when he got at school, it was as if he had never seen the words before.
When he was feeling really frustrated, he would smack the side of his head, and his instructor, Miss Adolf, would ask him what he was doing. The little child would respond by saying that he was attempting to “knock the words” into his lips because he felt that they were stuck inside of his head.
He had trouble with English and mathematics, and he couldn’t get a handle on spelling since the words would skip across the page as he attempted to read them. The only time he had a positive experience at school was at lunch break, despite the fact that history and science were both difficult subjects.
Henry said that whenever he went back to his former schools as an adult, he would joke about by telling the students that he had a “D” in lunch. Nevertheless, there was some truth to that comment, since it was the only thing he didn’t “dread” while he was at school.
His parents did all they could to get him to change his mind, including yelling at him, screaming at him, and cajoling him. At one point, they even admitted to him that he was a “disappointment.” When the actor was acting in “Happy Days,” he loathed having to attend Monday read-throughs since that was when they viewed the initial draft of the script.
He was used to fast learning information and inventing the remainder of the tasks. When he was called out for not reading what was written on the pages, he would shrug it off by stating that he was giving his character an essence instead of reading what was written on the pages.
Henry didn’t anticipate that his improvised lines would offer anything particularly noteworthy, but the audience took a like to Arthur Herbert “The Fonz” Fonzarelli, and he ended up being the most popular character in the series. The actor was ultimately given a diagnosis of dyslexia when he was 31 years old, and he met Stacey, who would later become his wife, when he walked into a clothes shop where she was working as a publicist.

He claimed that he had a reaction whenever he interacted with a youngster whose teacher would reprimand them for being nine years old and understanding the material by that point. The actor had a difficult time accepting his diagnosis, but he ended up telling Stacey about it in the end.
Henry revealed the situation to his wife, claiming that he was “embarrassed,” and she took it in stride.
Henry noted that he did not have “much luck” with school ladies because whenever he was with them, he was preoccupied with wondering when they would discover that he was “dim.” In 1976, after he had earned enough money from his performances on television, he went to purchase his first sports jacket, and it was there that he encountered Stacey for the first time.
He said that he was “terribly” worried about her discovering the difficulties he was having with his studies. Before he met Stacey, he had a group of females he was close with and he didn’t have a problem conversing to them. However, one-on-one conversations were tough for him since his self-image had been shaken by the fact that he thought he was dumb. Stacey helped him.
Henry had the impression that he was constantly on the lookout for someone to catch him in a lie, but when Stacey learned about his troubles, she made an offer to assist him. He began to depend on her, and after he got over feeling “embarrassed,” he would ask Stacey, his wife since 1978, how to spell things for him. This happened after he had begun to rely on her.
Before then, he was unable to write even a single letter; all he could do was write down the noises in his brain in the order that he heard them. To make matters worse, he was unable to look them up in dictionaries, which was quite aggravating.
Henry remembers Stacey as having red hair and wearing purple parachute pants the first time they met. He was taken aback by how stunningly gorgeous she was, and he came back to the shop the next week to ask if they might have a soda together after he hurriedly rushed to get a present for a wedding.
Stacey first yelled that she was not a “gift service,” but she ultimately changed her mind and went out with him to get ginger ales. After just a few weeks of dating, Stacey and Jed, who was then four years old, moved in with Henry. After two years, the couple were married. The pair became parents to Zoe and Max, and his wife stood at his side as he was presented with an Emmy Award in 2018 for his work on “Barry.” Speaking on her and her husband’s then-40-year marriage in 2019, Stacey said: “We’ve been through a lot together.”

The celebrity’s wife once claimed that the most wonderful thing in the world is to grow up with someone. She recognized that at the time of their marriage, they were not the same individuals, but some of the principles that they held most important remained the same.
However, she did admit that it was hard work, and that there were issues that threw them off, but that they were able to continue with it because of their love for one another and their friendship, and that their relationship improved as a result. Henry related how they spent their time together enjoying activities such as fishing, spending time with their grandkids, going to the movies, and spending time with one other.
During his struggle with dyslexia, the actor may have had his wife’s support, but in recent years, Henry has become a champion for all young children, including Clarkson’s daughter. While he was on the program that was hosted by River’s mother, he shared a heartfelt message with River’s younger self.

During the course of her presentation, Clarkson disclosed the fact that her daughter, who suffered from dyslexia, was told that Henry had the same but that he had authored nearly forty novels for youngsters! The actor said that he had novels that River might like, and the presenter revealed that she had already started reading several of them.
The country artist related how one morning River’s school performed a presentation on dyslexia, and it was found that the issue was more prevalent than was previously believed. River is the singer’s daughter. Clarkson said that famous people with dyslexia include celebrities such as Captain America, Anthony Mackie, and Zachary Levi.
River was given the confidence she needed by the message after witnessing how candid the celebs were about it. Henry turned to the camera in the recording studio after he had asked the singer for the name of her daughter and then left a direct message for the little child, saying: “I love you.”
