In the month of May, members of the Saanich Police Department in Victoria, Canada, took advantage of a chance to connect with the community by wearing their dancing shoes.

Uptown was the location of a flashmob that was organized by twenty-one police officers in conjunction with one hundred kids from the dance department at Spectrum Community School.

Music that was selected? The song “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars, which is just suitable.

An after-event press release claimed that the purpose of the event was to cultivate a special relationship between children and law enforcement. The cops and students participated in dancing sessions, during which they laughed and worked toward the same objective of performing in a flash mob together. This was effective in accomplishing the aim.

Despite the fact that dancing in front of a flash mob was outside of many officers’ comfort zones, they were prepared to accept the risk in order to make the event memorable for the city.

Not only did officers take part in dancing classes with the children, but they also committed their own time to practicing along with the pupils. The Chief Constable’s Citizenship Award was bestowed to Lia Shannon, a dance teacher at Spectrum Community School, in recognition of her participation in arranging the event.

There were just four days available for Shannon and the dancers to put everything together without any problems. They practiced carefully each day, despite the fact that the schedule was quite tight.

The commitment of the police officers was admirable, as shown by the fact that seventeen of them actually showed up to Shannon’s dancing class at one time. There was one officer in particular who was extremely eager about learning the routine, and they even tackled the most difficult areas with dedication.

The purpose of the performance was to effectively bridge the gap between children and law enforcement officials, and it was successful in doing so, as seen by the big crowd and the many accolades it received. A renewed camaraderie and trust between the children and the law enforcement officers was highlighted by Shannon, who remarked on the beneficial influence that the incident had not only on the neighborhood but also on her pupils.
