The “coming out as trans” video of a Utah resident, which has a loving voiceover from the woman’s great-grandmother, has topped one million views.

Jenna Tea, a transgender woman living in Salt Lake City, posted a video on Instagram on August 10 explaining how her great-grandmother Katherine responded to her disclosure. Since then, the video has received an outpouring of enthusiastic support from people all around the world.

“Ever since I was a kid, she has always been so supportive of me,” Jenna Tea, who is 21 years old, said in an interview with People on Friday, October 4. “She was always aware that I was unique in comparison to other children, and she always saw my uniqueness as a positive trait. In addition to that, she never stops complimenting me on how beautiful I am, and it is the most endearing thing I have ever heard.

“Well, it’s your life, honey,” her great-grandmother says at the beginning of the film that has gone viral.

Katherine says, “You have to do what makes you happy,” in the taped discussion between her and her great-granddaughter. The great-granddaughter informed PEOPLE that she originally came out as a transgender woman on social media on January 19, before she “started taking hormones” in April.

“It’s something that we have to adjust to, and sometimes it’s difficult for other people, but they’re not living your life, you are,” Katherine says in the voiceover of the Instagram video. “It’s something that we have to adjust to.” “The best thing is to put it out there, deal with it, and it is what it is,” the speaker said. “It is kind of their problem to readjust,” the speaker said.

“I have always been of the same opinion. When you desired dolls rather than trucks and other stuff, I always noted that you had a more affectionate side than you would otherwise. After that, she continues by saying, “There were signs, but we never said anything to you because until you know, it is not fair to say anything to you either.” The reason for this is because I do not want you to be miserable, to battle with this, and to allow it to ruin you because other people are not accepting of you. Simply put, they are complete fools.

In the last part of her heartfelt letter, Katherine says, “I love you.” The fact that you are either a guy or a girl is irrelevant to me. I have affection for whomever is within there.

The response that she receives from her great-granddaughter is, “That means the world.”

Jenna Tea, who is a drag performer and also works as a makeup artist, revealed to People that her great-grandmother is among the people who attend her drag shows.

It was claimed by her that she had a great time at every performance that she had attended. My spirit is filled with joy whenever I get to see her having a wonderful time and tipping the drag queens. It is a really remarkable experience. Despite the fact that she is aware of my desire to make drag a full-time job in the future, she continues to have faith in me.

Not only does Jenna Tea draw inspiration from transgender individuals who have struggled for transgender rights, such as Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and Miss Major, but she also draws inspiration from transgender performers.

Regarding the content creator and actor, she expressed her admiration for Dylan Mulvaney, saying, “As someone who is also documenting my transition online, I really look up to Dylan Mulvaney.” “I have a lot of respect for the many stunning transgender actresses who appear on Pose; it is truly remarkable to see transgender women starring and shining in such a prominent series.”

In addition, the transgender drag artist cited the legendary drag performer RuPaul as a role model.

“Despite the fact that RuPaul is not transgender, she has been quite possibly the most influential person in my life,” she stated. “I don’t know if I ever would have found my identity if it weren’t for her and Rupaul’s Drag Race,” she said.

According to Jenna Tea, “I look up to so many queens from the show, especially the trans artists, because they have shown me that I can do it too.” She named Gottmik, Peppermint, Sasha Colby, Kerri Colby, and Adore Delano as some of the queens that inspire her.

Her great-grandmother is of the opinion that Jenna Tea has the potential to achieve the same level of fame as them.

One of the things that she told me not too long ago was, “You are a star! “I absolutely adore being able to watch you perform and to see you in your natural state,” she remarked. “That remark really stood out to me,” the speaker said.
