Anne Hathaway has said that she was subjected to a “toxic” internet image, which caused her to miss out on parts after she was awarded an Academy Award. Following the announcement that she had won the award for Best Supporting Actress in 2013, she was met with a tidal wave of criticism on the internet, with a great number of people describing her as tedious and lacking in authenticity.
During a recent interview for a cover story, Anne Hathaway said that Christopher Nolan was instrumental in rescuing her career during a period of public disapproval that occurred around the time that she was awarded the Academy Award for her performance in Les Misérables. During this time period, Hathaway was subjected to many forms of online criticism. She recalls a particular instance in which she looked for her own name after she had won an Academy Award, only to find a top search result that was captioned “Why does everyone hate Anne Hathaway?”
“A lot of people wouldn’t give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online,” Hathaway said. “It was a very difficult situation for me.” “I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who did not care about that and gave me one of the most beautiful roles I’ve ever had in one of the best films that I’ve been a part of,” said the actor.

Specifically, Hathaway is referring to her performance as NASA scientist Dr. Amelia Brand in the space epic directed by Christopher Nolan and released in 2014. She had previously worked with Nolan in the role of Selina Kyle in the film The Dark Knight Rises, which was released in 2012. The film was praised many months before to her Oscar campaign for Les Misérables, which was released in late 2012 and was met with criticism on the internet.
Hathaway made the following observation about Nolan: “I don’t know if he knew that he was backing me at the time, but it had that effect.” In addition, my professional life did not suffer the kind of setback that it could have if he had not supported me.
During the 2010s, the actress reflected on the “humiliation” she had to face as a consequence of the internet trolling that was referred to as “Hathahate.” Because of this trolling, her seemingly immaculate character was the subject of the attack.
During an interview with the journal, she said that humiliation is a very difficult experience to go through. It is essential that you do not allow it to shut you down. You have to maintain your bravery, which may be challenging because you may be thinking, “If I stay safe, if I hug the middle, if I don’t draw too much attention to myself, it won’t hurt,” she added.

“But if you want to do that, you shouldn’t be an actor,” she said. It’s like you’re walking a tightrope. As she proceeded, she said, “You are a daredevil.” You are asking others to spend their time, money, attention, and concern in you. You are asking them to invest all of these things in you. You must thus provide them with something that is worthy of all of those things. Furthermore, if it does not cost you anything, what exactly are you delivering to your customers?
Unlike Bridget Fonda, who made the conscious decision to leave the film industry, Anne Hathaway has not prematurely stopped her performing career. This is something that we are very happy about.
