The encounter that Kate Middleton had with a young lady who was battling illness was characterized by “extreme humanity and kindness.”
A young photographer named Liz Hatton, who hails from Harrogate in Yorkshire, shared her experience with the Today show on BBC Radio 4 on Thursday, October 3. She described the moment she was embraced by Kate Middleton at Windsor Castle after she had taken photographs of an investiture ceremony that was carried out by Prince William.
The arrival of Kate and William, both 42 years old, into the chamber at the Castle on October 2 was described as “a massive shock” by Hatton, who is 16 years old. This statement was made after William had presented accolades to both regular people and superstars who have accomplished great things.
“None of us were really expecting it necessarily — except for my little brother apparently!” continued Hatton, who has been diagnosed with a desmoplastic small round cell tumor, a kind of cancer that is very uncommon and dangerous. Additionally, it has been informed to her that she has a lifespan ranging from six months to three years.
Hatton had been asked by the palace to take photographs of the investiture, which was part of a succession of events that would leave an indelible mark on the individual. After that, she and her family had a private meeting with the royal couple.
An additional statement that she made to the BBC was that “talking to them was amazing because it was like talking to anyone, like just a normal person.” It was not because they had any type of grandeur; rather, they possessed nothing but compassion and goodwill.
A post that was published in May by Hatton’s mother, Vicky Roboyna, revealed her daughter’s “photography bucket list” to X. Since then, the post has garnered thousands of likes and shares, reflecting the popularity of the article.
William learned about this via the London Air Ambulance Charity, which he serves as a patron for. Additionally, the staff of the Prince of Wales released some of her images from the investiture on the official social media accounts that he shares with Kate.
In an interview with BBC Radio 4, Hatton said that she had the desire to “fill my life with as many good experiences as I can because those happy memories are going to be what’s important not just to me but to the people around me who experience them with me.”
An further statement made by her mother Vicky during the radio interview was as follows: “Would we choose to have Liz forever and none of these experiences? Of course we would.” On the other hand, that is not going to happen, and we are quite thankful that individuals have gone out of their way to make things happen for her and to make some of her dreams come true.
On the second of October, after the encounter, William and Kate released their own reactions on their own social media networks. “It was a delight to attend the Windsor meeting with Liz today. In their letter, the Prince and Princess of Wales referred to the individual as “a talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired both of us.”

“Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us. ❤️,” they concluded their remarks. Using the initials of their first names as a kind of shorthand, the royals signed the post with the letters “W&C,” indicating that the communication was sent straight from either of them.
Under a snapshot of herself embracing the Princess of Wales that was posted on her Instagram Story on October 2, Hatton wrote, “Such a lovely, genuine, and kind people, I’m over the moon that my family and I had this experience.”
At Kensington Palace, the team that represents William and Kate shared photographs that were taken during the meeting. There was a second shot that showed the royal couple standing with Liz and her family, in addition to the welcoming hug that they shared.
In a video message sent out on September 9th, the Princess of Wales revealed that she has finished her whole course of chemotherapy treatment. It was earlier in March that Kate disclosed that she was having treatment for cancer. Since then, she has remained out of the public eye for a significant portion of the year 2024 in order to secretly prioritize her health.
A unique connection exists between Hatton and Kate as a result of her passion for photography. Her pastime is photography, and she has characterized herself as a “enthusiastic amateur photographer.” The Princess is well-known for her participation in this activity. Additionally, she is a patron of The Royal Photographic Society and often stands behind the camera to capture photographs of her children, Prince George, who is 11 years old, Princess Charlotte, who is 9 years old, and Prince Louis, who is 6 years old, on special occasions such as their birthdays or other notable occasions.
