According to a statement released by her family, Maggie Smith, a great actress who dedicated more than seven decades of her life to her career, has passed away.

Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, her sons, issued a statement in which they shared the news that Smith had gone away in the hospital in a calm and serene manner early on Friday morning. The reason of loss was not determined by them.

The family of Smith expressed their gratitude to the medical personnel at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for the care and support they provided during their mother’s last days before passing away. They also requested privacy at this difficult time.

Maggie has done a number of famous characters over the course of her career, the most notable of which being Professor Minerva McGonagall in the film adaptation of the Harry Potter novels and Violet Crawley in the series sets of “Downton Abbey.”
