According to Kathy Bates, the weight reduction she has experienced has been of great assistance to her career as an actor.

The 76-year-old actress recently gave an interview to Variety, which was published on September 11th, and she expressed her delight at the prospect of starring in the new CBS series Matlock. Prior to this, she had spent many years playing supporting parts.

Despite the fact that she has consistently lost weight, she claims that she is ready to take on the task of starring in a broadcast drama, despite the fact that it requires a great deal of energy.

“It has been of tremendous assistance to me that, over the course of the past six or seven years, I have lost one hundred pounds,” she said to the publication. At this point in my life, I don’t believe I’ve been this skinny since I was in college.

Bates said that she was truly at her highest weight while she was appearing in the NBC drama Harry’s Law in the year 2011. The statement that she made was, “I had to sit down every moment that I could.” The act of walking was difficult for me. I am embarrassed that I allowed myself to allow myself to get so out of shape, but now I have an incredible amount of energy.

The actress gave an interview to Extra in 2019, during which she discussed the moment she realized it was time to make a change in her lifestyle and how she had lost sixty pounds. “I was dealing with diabetes because it runs in my family, and I really didn’t want to live with that,” she added. She went on to say that she is now “in the best health I’ve been in in years, and I’m so grateful — it’s a miracle.”

Additionally, Bates said that she has gained an important lesson from her niece that assists her in avoiding overeating her meals.

“An involuntary sigh manifests itself after you have consumed food for twenty to thirty minutes. The stomach and the brain are communicating with one another to let you know that you have eaten enough…As she put it at the time, “and what I discovered is that if you listen to that sigh and push that plate away for just five minutes, you realize that you are satisfied and you don’t need to eat any more,” she added.

The actress who won an Academy Award has already discussed the wonderful impact that losing weight has had on her post-cancer lymphedema. Lymphedema is the swelling of the arms or legs that occurs as a result of a blockage in the lymphatic system. It is a typical “souvenir” that occurs following lymph node surgery.

Bates, who has prevailed over cancer on two separate occasions, said to People in January 2019 that “I was terrified of getting it.”

When Bates was asked about the reasons why she believes lymphedema does not get a lot of attention, she noted that some medical professionals notice swollen limbs and assume that patients are just overweight rather than suffering with a severe medical disease.

The statement that she made was that “some doctors believe it is cosmetic and not life-threatening.” In medical school, students spend fifteen to thirty minutes learning about the complete lymphatic system. As a result, if a patient goes to their primary care physician complaining of swollen limbs, discomfort, and a heavy feeling, the doctor will not be able to identify the cause of these symptoms. As a result, the condition continues to worsen over the course of years without being identified, and it continues to advance.
