Reba McEntire’s brand is built on the many facets of her life as a performer, but nothing compares to the way she raised her children and carried out her responsibilities as a mother. McEntire is the mother of a young man who is prospering in his 30s, and she is more proud of him than words can express. McEntire made it her mission to inculcate in her son the morals and ethics that she absorbed from her own upbringing in order to better prepare him for the challenges of life.

During an interview that took place in October 2022, the famous actress once reflected on her early years as a mother, and she expressed happiness that she had remained loyal to what she believed in during those years. The celebrity discussed how she approaches parenting in a practical manner, which she believes has helped to keep her kid rooted in reality.

The singer, who has won a number of awards, is a mother to Shelby Blackstock, who is the sole kid she has with her former husband, talent manager Narvel Blackstock. In the year 1990, when Reba McEntire became a mother, she was at the peak of her career as a musician. Since signing a record contract with Mercury/Polygram Records in the early 1970s, the artist most known for the song “(You Lift Me) Up to Heaven” has been performing professionally for more than four decades. As a result of her early tracks charting poorly on the Billboard Hot Country tracks list, her career did not instantly gather traction.

Her career took off in 1978 when she started working with fellow vocalist Jacky Ward on two songs. This was the beginning of her breakthrough. The song “(You Lift Me) Up To Heaven” became her first top 10 hit on the chart in 1980, and by the beginning of the next decade, she had become a well-known name among those who like listening to music. The singer-songwriter has released more than 30 studio albums and has sold more than 75 million CDs.

McEntire has been honored with a number of accolades over her career, including three Grammy Awards and 16 Academy of Country Music Awards. The same year that the famous singer received her first child, she also began her career as an actress.

Tremors was the first film in which Reba McEntire was credited for her acting work. The Hollywood A-lister debuted the first season of her television program, “Reba,” in 2001, while also making it to Broadway in the 2000s. In 1989, the artist, who is widely regarded as the preeminent figure in country music, wed Narvel.

She had divorced Charlie Battles two years before to it, after the couple had been married for 11 years. Following the end of her marriage, the famous singer relocated to Nashville, where she met and wed Narvel. The manager at the time was a single parent to three children from a prior relationship. In 2015, she and Narvel initiated divorce proceedings.

Even though she had many responsibilities as an artist, she never lost sight of the fact that she wanted to be a parent. McEntire made time in the midst of her hectic schedule to teach her son the value of humility. During her interview with People, the doting mother expressed her delight while gushing over her baby and how much she adored him.

She reflected on her son’s experience coping with ADHD when he was younger. McEntire said that while he was in school he could hardly read, but he worked so hard to improve his reading ability that he “read 10 books this year.” She went on to say, “He is always working to get better and do better.” Additionally, his father performed a wonderful job.”

The performer also discussed her experience as a working mother, remarking that she was fortunate to have “the best nannies.”

McEntire said that when her job schedule got monotonous, she “took him on the road with me” at times. She reflected on her daily routine and the efforts she made to be present for Shelby throughout the formative years of his life. The country superstar continued by saying that even though she was attempting to balance parenthood and a profession, she was thankful for “a lot of help.” She went into detail about the many attempts she made to be present:

“After a performance, I would fly home, wake him up in the morning, drive him to school, and then pick him up later that day. We would play till I had to leave for a performance later that evening for which I had to fly out again. I yearned to be in Shelby’s company. Continue to.”

Shelby was certainly aware of his luxury as the kid of a famous musician; yet, his mother made sure that he did not let it go to his head by preventing him from being arrogant. She revealed the ways in which she kept him in check by providing him with morsels of knowledge. McEntire divulged the following information to the news outlet:

“No matter if we were playing games or cards, I never allowed Shelby to come out on top.” He would not have acquired any knowledge in such a manner. I have emphasized to Shelby that while I would always adore her, it is important to me that other people like her company. Don’t act like such a brat, therefore. Don’t act like a pampered brat,'”

The singer who is well known for her hit song “How Was I to Know” went on to add that she believes she was successful in instilling such qualities in her son since “a lot of people have told me you would never know (he) had been blessed with the life he was given.”

The famous TV host pondered on her experience of being a mother and described her child as a “gift from God.” She said that before to adopting him, she had a “very self-centered” attitude. All of that shifted as she became aware that “There’s a little character who you are given the job to protect and nurture and love and teach, so all of the attention’s not on you anymore.”

McEntire continued by saying that she and her kid have a very strong bond. The mother-and-son combination is able to spend quality time together whenever McEntire visits her hometown of Nashville, despite both of their hectic work schedules.

She said that she and Shelby, along with his wife, would often get together for breakfast or supper. In October of 2022, the professional racing car driver from the United States wed Marissa Branch. At the reception for Shelby’s wedding, his mother and he danced together to one of her most famous songs, “You’re Gonna Be (Always Loved By Me).” It was a really memorable moment.
