Jones’ longtime agent, Barry McPherson, verified the news in an obituary that was given to TMZ on Monday. In the obituary, McPherson revealed that the legendary actor passed away this morning at his home in Dutchess County, New York, where he was surrounded by his family. He had reached the age of 93.
The recipient of the EGOT was a celebrity on the stage as well as the big screen. He was nominated for an Academy Award in 1970 for his performance in The Great White Hope, and he was further awarded an honorary Oscar during the event that took place in 2012.
He is a two-time winner of the Emmy Award and has been nominated for the award eight times. He won both of his Emmy Awards in 1991, one for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in Gabriel’s Fire and another for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Special for his work in Heat Wave.
