Following a marriage that lasted for two years, Jill Martin and Erik Brooks have decided to continue with their relationship.

The contributor to TODAY, who is 48 years old, and the founder of Ethos Capital, who tied the wedding on September 10, 2022, “are quietly divorcing,” according to a source who spoke with PEOPLE.

Over a year after Martin disclosed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2023, soon after she had tested positive for the BRCA gene, which is linked to a greatly increased likelihood of acquiring breast or ovarian cancer, the couple has decided to part ways.

“Jill is committed to improving her health and having a positive impact on the world. The first of October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and she is starting a new campaign today, October 1. “In addition, she is launching a brand-new enterprise this month,” the insider continues.

When the news of the divorce was first reported, it was by Page Six.

When Martin was given the news of her sickness, she expressed to People that she was “grateful” that it occurred after the wedding that she and Brooks had just celebrated. “Her life will be defined [as] before and after the diagnosis,” she said, adding that she was “grateful” that the diagnosis came after their wedding since it “was such a purely happy event.” Martin stated that she felt her life will be defined in this way.

“I feel like this is a new chapter with a new journey,” Martin said in addition. On the other hand, it is not a terrible thing since I am going to take this. That is just going to be different.”

“And it will have an effect on my choices, as well as my lifestyle and my outlook on life. It will also have an effect on my lifestyle.” She continued by saying, “And there will be a lot of beautiful, positive silver linings that come out of it, as well as, of course, heartbreak.” “I mean, this is heartbreaking.”

Since that time, the lifestyle and commerce journalist has recounted her journey through the world of health, beginning with the recovery from chemotherapy treatments and ending with the undergoing of a double mastectomy.

In a personal essay that was published in August of last year, she said that cancer “knocked me down,” during which she had a double mastectomy; yet, she was resolved “to fight.”

She continued by saying, “I used to get out of bed every day to start working, but now getting out of bed is a choice I make every day.” Is it possible that I could want to hide beneath the blankets and keep crying? Indeed. All the time. On the other hand, I did that when I initially began my rehabilitation… and I am making the decision to get up little by little, just as I am doing now. I have decided to start a battle. In addition, I have made the decision to make use of my power and position in order to do all in my power to eradicate cancer.

“I thought it was important to share this journey with you in real time,” Martin stated. “It was a truly remarkable experience.” “I have gone through the happy, the sad, and now the scary,” she said. We are going to persevere through this together.
