The engagement ring that Chloe Miller was wearing was removed by her Australian Shepherd, which caused her to go through a lot of trouble.
The student was thrilled to announce that she had been engaged to her fiancé after five years of dating due to the fact that they had first met as undergraduate swimmers at Georgia Tech. The pair was negotiating the challenges of a long-distance relationship when an incident occurred with their dog, Charlie. Miller was attending graduate school, and her boyfriend was working in Florida.
Miller was a graduate student at the time, and he was working hard to keep up with his packed schedule. It was March 2022. “I had been gone for eight hours prepping for a big exam I had the following day,” according to her statement to PEOPLE. “I had left the ring in my ring dish on my bedside table.”
It wasn’t until much later that Miller discovered she had forgotten to wear her ring; before to that, she had not given it a second thought.
In spite of the fact that I am notorious for misplacing things, I did not have the diamond insured at the time! Due to the fact that I felt so reckless, I was completely and utterly upset. I contacted my mother to inform my fiance because I was so unhappy at the moment, and I didn’t want to stress him out since he was in Florida,” she adds. “I was so distraught that I didn’t want to worry him out.”
After some time, Miller came to the realization that Charlie had managed to get his hands on the ring, and that as he was chewing on it, the diamond started to fall out. At that time, she and her boyfriend were of the opinion that there was a significant possibility that the dog had consumed it.
“She must have sniffed it,” he said. On the assumption that she had been chewing on it for some time. Unfortunately, this is not the first time that she has been involved with the jewelry industry. It is just jewelry that she chews on, according to the owner of the dog, who reveals this information.
At the same time as they were concerned about her diamond, the pair was also concerned about Charlie.
For the purpose of determining when we ought to begin to be worried, we conducted a great deal of study. According to Miller, “She is an extremely intelligent dog, and I believe that she was aware that we were looking for it because she had been urinating anywhere from six to eight times over the course of the next two days.”
We had made a pact to see the veterinarian on the Monday after the next week if it had not passed. Not only that, but we were unable to be absolutely certain that the diamond was not hidden in some carpet or blankets, which meant that we had to flip the home upside down.
“I will say that I was an absolute wreck and pretty upset with her at the time,” she says. “Obviously, I was concerned for her health, but I will also say that I was concerned for her health.” When I show her my ring, she will cower because she recalls how unhappy and heartbroken I was. This is something that continues to this day.
TikTok was Miller’s platform of choice for documenting the development of the crisis. “There was a sound trending that I felt fit perfectly, but I never expected it to blow up.”
The worried dog parent was relieved to discover that a lot of people were finding comedy in the situation, which helped her in getting through the waiting game.

The fact that everyone’s remarks were so hilarious and, to tell you the truth, threw such a positive light to the issue was a wonderful thing to see. The fact that so many people were remarking on the identical incident that occurred in Marley and Me was something that I had no idea had happened!
Miller’s now-husband, who had driven to be with her during the difficult period, was able to retrieve the diamond after a few days had passed.
“It was only natural that he surprised me by driving up right away to assist me in locating the diamond. In reality, he was the one who discovered the diamond in her feces almost two days after she had thrown it out,” she adds.
“On a Thursday, she swallowed the diamond, and the diamond passed away on Saturday morning,” the statement said. The prongs of the ring were the only one that had been damaged. Since then, I have completed the process of repairing the ring and resetting the diamond in a more secure setting.
“I look back on that video and remember how upset I was in the moment, but to this day, we still joke about it with friends and family and even brought it up at the wedding,” according to the actress. “It is truly part of our love and family story.”
