Simone Biles has requested that watchers of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris refrain from making any remarks regarding her hair until she has responded.
Two Instagram Stories were posted by the seven-time Olympic champion on Tuesday, July 30, depicting her and other Olympians on a bus travel that lasted for forty-five minutes while the heatwave that is presently sweeping over Paris was in full swing. As temperatures in the City of Light have reached a scorching 95 degrees, Biles, who is 27 years old, is seen in the video taking use of a portable fan in an effort to maintain her cool.
“Don’t come for me about my hair,” she captioned the video, which showed her hair tied up into a ponytail. “I’m not complaining about my hair.” “IT WAS DONE but bus has NO AC & it’s like 9,000 degrees.”
It is never OK to remark on someone’s hair, regardless of whether or not there is a heatwave. She followed up her first post with a picture of herself smiling while wearing a blank tank top and reminding people that it is never acceptable to do so.
She indicated that she was “gonna hold your hand when I say this,” followed by the statement, “next time you want to comment on a Black girl’s hair, JUST DON’T.”
Biles, who holds the record for the most medals ever won by a gymnast in history with 37 medals from various events including the Olympics, has been subjected to a lot of unwelcome remarks on her hair during the course of her career. In an interview with Elle that was published on Wednesday, July 17, she discussed how she has realized the importance of accepting her hair throughout the course of her life.
“I used to worry about [my hair being considered] not professional,” she said to me. “But I’m not embarrassed about it anymore.”
The Olympian continued by saying, “It is unfortunate that the majority of the criticism we receive comes from within our own community.” There isn’t much of a difference to me if my edges aren’t smooth.
The fact that Biles has taken charge of her haircare regimen has been a significant contributor to the increase in her self-assurance. A portion of this is due to the fact that Black content producers provide access to beauty lessons in which they explain goods and trends that are worth trying.
“We’ve been able to take care of our hair better and take care of our beauty routines better, because it’s self-taught,” she said to reporters. “It’s really special that we have access to those platforms.”
The Olympic gymnast Simone Biles is now in the middle of yet another performance that will go down in Olympic history.
In spite of the fact that she had some discomfort in her calf during the warmups on Sunday, July 28, she was able to qualify for the individual event finals for the vault, floor, and balancing beam. Due to the fact that she achieved a remarkable score of 59.566 in the preliminaries, she will also be competing in the Olympic all-around competition.
