During the course of each weekend, an old man would go to a newspaper stand, buy a National Lottery ticket, and then continue to wait. He would then insert the birthday of a member of his family into the ticket. His strategy, however, was unsuccessful one day.
Denis Fossit is an eighty-year-old man or older. Over the course of many years, he has made it a habit to go to the newspaper stand on the weekend and purchase a lottery ticket that costs one pound. There are six little windows in which he enters the birth dates of members of his family, including his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. Following that, it is decided that we will wait until the results are released. He did not quit up, despite the fact that he had never won a significant amount of money for his efforts.
However, his strategy was unsuccessful for him on a particular day when, after buying a lottery ticket, he discovered that he had forgotten to bring his spectacles with him. Unfortunately, Denis was unable to enter the numbers since, without his glasses, he was unable to see the white squares that were designated for the entry of the numbers. It was then that he decided to rely on chance. Additionally, he demanded that the young lady who was selling tickets provide him with a ticket that had a number that was produced instantly. The senior citizen was ecstatic upon his return to his house.
Emily was the one who heard Denis say to his wife, “I have a feeling that we’ll be very lucky today.”
A minimum of three of the numbers from 1 to 49 that are entered into the windows must be identical to the balls that are going to be flung out of the vehicle during the lottery draw in order to be considered a winner of the lottery. Having more matches results in greater money. On the other hand, the chances of winning the prize, which is 116,500 pounds, are one in roughly thirteen million. Unbelievable good fortune! Once they had matched three digits, Denis and Emily hugged each other. When they saw that five were identical, they couldn’t believe their eyes. As the sixth ball rolled out and displayed the same number as their lottery ticket, they were so overjoyed that they nearly passed out from happiness.
Nothing like that happened; there was no loud celebration of victory, no champagne corks exploding into the ceiling, and nothing else like it. Denis took a drink of whiskey as Emily knocked over a glass of sherry. Emily was having a good time. Due to the outbreak, they were forced to celebrate as a family by themselves, despite the fact that they had planned a great party for the whole family. From the time that it could be exchanged for a cash receipt until it could be redeemed, the winning ticket was hidden in the closet, hidden beneath piles of garments.
Neither Denis nor Emily argued about how they would go about spending such a substantial amount of money. Initially and most importantly, the gardener will be compensated. Denis has a deep affection for the front garden; yet, due to the pain in his back, he is unable to work in it anymore. In addition, the couple made the decision to increase the size of their television and renovate their property. Emily has a desire to have a new stove of superior quality and a mattress that is pleasant. Each and every object that is left behind will be handed on to the grandchildren.
Denis provides an explanation by saying, “We’ve already lived, and it’s now their turn.”
Two of their daughters are now adults, and they also have two sons and a granddaughter. Now, an elderly couple hasn’t seen their relatives in a very long time due of the pandemic; nevertheless, once it is over, they want to plan a genuine family vacation in order to surprise the younger generation with a gift.
