Kayla McCarty loved meeting Kat Messinger during Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour last June. McCarty replied “yes.” over a year after their love story began.
Two Swift superfans accepted a mutual friend’s offer to watch her perform in Chicago, not expecting to fall in love. Within weeks, Messinger went from Iowa to California to spend the summer with McCarty. Messinger relocated to Portland and McCarty’s mother passed away during the season, but their connection lasted.
The couple returned to Chicago in May to attend their mutual friend’s kids’ baptism. Messinger proposed with a ring and a friendship bracelet beaded with “marry me.” Whenever they met, with the same individuals that hooked them together.
PM: “I’ve never believed in love at first sight, and then I met Kat,” McCarty says. “The second we met, it was like the world shifted.”
Messinger and McCarty can trace the “invisible string” that led to their partnership. Their buddy had invited them to Taylor Swift’s 2018 Reputation Tour and Lover Fest, which was canceled because to the COVID-19 epidemic.
“We always say we weren’t ready for each other then,” adds McCarty. Not the proper moment in our life. It wouldn’t have worked since I didn’t realize I was homosexual in 2018.
Their mutual acquaintance wanted to pair McCarty and Messinger for the Eras Tour, but neither lady was interested. When they finally had time together in their Soldier Field suite, everything changed.
“The suite was packed. Kat and I gravitated to each other the entire evening, not just in our group of four “McCarty recounts how Swift’s “Champagne Problems” solidified their relationship. Messinger felt upset while performing the song, and McCarty gave her a friendship bracelet, following Swifties’ performance practice of distributing handcrafted beaded accessories.

“I don’t know when she gave it to me, there was just this deep eye contact moment where I was just really feeling seen, and in that moment just really validated in all of the feelings that I was feeling,” Messinger tells the publication PEOPLE. “I also came to learn that Kayla is an artsy girly, I am not, I’m a boring lawyer, and she prizes her bracelets, so she doesn’t just give them out willy-nilly.”
Reiterating the emotions expressed by her fiance, McCarty continues by saying, “That was one that I didn’t want to give up.”
Although they went their own ways after the performance, the ladies remained in contact with one another via text messages. In the end, they came to the conclusion that they would meet each other in person. Despite the fact that Messinger was relocating from a position in Iowa to a job in Portland, the lawyer made the decision to pay McCarty a visit in Northern California since there was no “hard date” when she was required to relocate. The trip was planned in such a way that it would coincide with the release of Taylor Swift’s third re-recorded album, titled Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), which was in July.
“When she turned up, we were not really aware of it and we did not have any pressure on her. Recalling the conversation, McCarty says, “We just kind of said, ‘Let’s spend some time together.'” This summer, she was introduced to my family, and it turned out to be a summer filled with love. The ultimate result was that we went to three more Eras gigs together, one each in Santa Clara and Los Angeles.
In the end, Messinger made her way to Portland, but the two of them did not allow the distance between them impair their relationship. During the autumn, when McCarty’s mother passed away from a serious illness, she relied on the person she was dating at the time. The fact that Messinger was there throughout it all is something that McCarty considers to be a “very formative moment for our relationship.”
“When everything is wonderful, joyful, and amazing, and you are going to the Eras Tour every other week, it is incredibly simple to fall in love with someone. McCarty, who works in marketing for Disney, adds that Messinger’s pledge comes only a few of months into their relationship. “It’s so easy to be in love, but it’s a lot harder when you’re in the room with the family as your girlfriend’s mom literally di.es,” McCarty says.
The manner in which she came up for my whole family, how she showed up for my mother, and how she showed up for me was one of those moments that made me understand that this is the person I had been looking for. In addition, the Californian says, “It does not get any better.” “It was the manner in which Kat arrived up that I was like, ‘Oh, this is why I’m going to keep her around.’ Even though Taylor was the one who brought us together first. The Eras Tour is not even close to being as profound as this.'”

Messinger intends to relocate to Northern California with McCarty and their puppy, whom they have named after Taylor Swift’s song “August,” which is scheduled to be released in 2020. This relocation is anticipated to take place in the near future. As a tribute to “Daylight,” another song by the Grammy winner, they want to elope at dawn at the beginning of the day.
We have both been through several instances that have been quite challenging. According to McCarty, “this love is so much like the sun rising and being reminded that you will be okay.” “Taylor has so many songs about that, and we just resonate with that so much.”
