In the morning of Saturday, July 20, Moby Grape creator Jerry Miller passed away.

Jerry Miller, a well-known guitarist and a founding member of the progressive rock band Moby Grape, has passed away according to press reports. He was 81 years old.

People was informed by a representative for the artist that Miller passed away unexpectedly on Saturday. Nobody has been able to determine what caused the loss.

In the late 1950s, Miller started his career as a musician when he was a youngster. Miller was born and reared in Tacoma, Washington by his parents. Together with drummer Don Stevenson and Bob Mosley, he established the band known as The Frantics, which went on to achieve early, widespread acclaim.

Almost immediately, they relocated to San Francisco, where they became acquainted with Skip Spence and Peter Lewis, who had previously been members of Jefferson Airplane. They eventually came together to create the band Moby Grape.

In 1967, the band issued their first studio album, which was titled Moby Grape. Miller was a co-writer on two of the band’s most successful songs, which were taken from that album. These songs were “8.05” and “Hey Grandma.” After that, the album was ranked 124th on Rolling Stone’s list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.” After that, it was released.

Over the course of the following several years, the band proceeded to produce a multitude of recordings, some of which are Wow/Grape Jam (1968), Moby Grape ’69 (1969), and Truly Fine Citizen (1969).

However, it seems that the band’s success was derailed by a combination of drug usage and mental illness. This is especially true with relation to Spence, who had a mental collapse and quit the group in 1970.

However, after a short sabbatical in 1971, the band came back together to produce 20 Granite Creek, and they continued to perform on occasion throughout the subsequent half-century. In spite of this, Miller decided to concentrate on his solo endeavors and his concerts with The Jerry Miller Band throughout the 1990s, deviating from his previous practice of reorganizing.

Jo Johnson, Miller’s lifelong lover, is the only person he leaves behind.
