As a result of the failed effort to kill Donald Trump, President Joe Biden has decided to provide independent presidential contender Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with security from the Secret Service.
According to the Associated Press, Kennedy, who is 70 years old, expressed his gratitude to President Biden for providing him with security from the Secret Service in a statement that was released on Monday, July 15.
Kennedy also expressed gratitude to his private security agency, Gavin de Becker & Associates, “for keeping me safe for the past 15 months of my presidential campaign,” according to the reporting of the Associated Press.
Kennedy’s uncle, President John F. Kennedy, and his father, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, were both targeted and killed in the assassination attempt.
The announcement comes after a shooting incident occurred on Saturday, July 13, when President Trump, who is 78 years old, was campaigning at a rally in Pennsylvania. Agents of the Secret Service hurriedly removed the former president, who was covered in blood, off the platform. Subsequently, he sent a message using the social media app he uses called Truth Social, claiming that he had been struck by a gunshot.
According to a story that was published by Politico on Monday, President Trump met with Senator John F. Kennedy in Milwaukee before to the commencement of the Republican National Convention. The purpose of the meeting was to explore the prospect of Kennedy backing Trump as the Republican contender for the general election in 2024.
“Yes, Mr. Kennedy met with President Trump today to discuss national unity, and he hopes to meet with leaders of the Democratic Party as well,” Stefanie Spear, the press secretary for the Kennedy campaign, said in a statement, as reported by Politico.
Further, Spear said, “And no, he is not going to withdraw from the race anymore.” As far as head-to-head surveys are concerned, he is the only contender who is pro-choice, pro-environment, and anti-war who has defeated Donald Trump.
As the Republican National Convention is scheduled to begin on Monday evening, the Secret Service has revised its security strategy in preparation for the event.
In a statement, the Director of the United States Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, said, “I am confident in the security plan that our Secret Service RNC coordinator and our partners have put in place, which we have reviewed and strengthened in the wake of Saturday’s shooting.”
An armed guy, who was subsequently identified as Adrian Paul Aispuro, was arrested for impersonating a United States Marshal during a presidential campaign event that Kennedy attended in Los Angeles back in September. This occurred prior to Biden, who is 81 years old, granted him Secret Service Protection.
The guy “had a loaded gun and shoulder holster and a badge stating that he was a United States Marshal,” according to a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department who talked to People at the time.
According to the statement made by the spokesman, “Security at the location did not recognize them as being part of their security detail, so the Los Angeles Police Department was called and the suspect was detained.” The spokeswoman also said that the FBI was nearby.
In October, a second individual was taken into custody for trespassing on the residence of the independent candidate in Los Angeles on two separate occasions inside the same day.
