The loss has occurred of Dave Loggins, a country singer and songwriter who was responsible for writing the theme song for the Masters golf event.
According to an obituary that was published in The Tennessean, Dave passed away on Wednesday in Nashville.
Although the cause of loss is unknown, it was reported that Dave was receiving hospice care at the time of his passing.
Dave, who was born and raised in Tennessee, was one of the most well-known composers in the state. He was responsible for composing songs for a variety of artists, including Johnny Cash, Toby Keith, Alabama, Wynonna Judd, Reba McEntire, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson, and Three Dog Night, amongst others.
Dave is also known for writing “Augusta,” which is the theme music for the Masters. Not only has it been a mainstay of the television broadcast ever since he created it in 1981, but it has also become associated with CBS Sports and Jim Nantz.
In 1986, Dave made history by being the first and only unsigned artist to win a Country Music Association award. He was awarded the trophy for a duet which he performed with Anne Murray and titled “Nobody Loves Me Like You Do.”
In addition, he had a solo success with the song “Please Come to Boston,” and his career featured a nomination for a Grammy Award as well as an entry into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame during his lifetime.
Those that are left behind are his three sons and his grandchild.
