The veteran actress passed away on June 24 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, according to a spokeswoman for the family who confirmed the situation to various publications. Benedict was 96 years old when he passed away as a result of complications from a stroke.
After beginning her training in dance, the actress, who was born in Brooklyn, eventually shifted her attention to acting. During the 1950s, Benedict started her career in television by making appearances on shows such as Candid Camera and The Steve Allen Show.
In the years that followed, he appeared in a number of films, including The Happy Hooker Goes to Washington and Perfect Victims, as well as in a few episodes of The Incredible Hulk and Fantasy Island.
The character of Edith Fairchild was a recurring character on General Hospital, and Benedict also appeared on Days of Our Lives. In the film Opus of an Angel, which was released in 2017, she made her last appearance on screen.
Benedict and John Myhers were married for a period of thirty years. Following Myhers’ passing in 1992, she reunited with the actor Rod Steiger, whom she had first met when she was a youngster. They eventually tied the knot in the year 2000. Benedict went into a relationship with Jeremy Slate, who passed away in 2006, after Steiger had passed away in the year 2002 respectively.
“Both of my husbands, as well as my lifetime partner, Jeremy, were wonderful men who respected me as an actress,” she said in an interview with Women Fitness article in the year 2016. “They all passed away from different forms of cancer, so my memories are sometimes bittersweet, but with no regrets.”
